When Will Met Sylvia
Episode 10 of Platonic begins with Charlie and Sylvia inspecting the new house. From the looks of it, this one seems perfect. It has enough space for their entire family and more. And there are no creepy vibes, despite the triple homicide of the O’Connell family. Just like that, they agree to buy the house and the moving process soon begins.
Meanwhile, at Lucky Penny, Omar has taken over the reins as the new beer master. Will is forced to work under his subpar leadership and supervision. He sounds out a warning to Reggie and Andy: “You have no idea how much sh*t I can take.”
Why do Will and Sylvia fall out of favour with each other?
It is increasingly clear that Will’s upper ceiling is being tested. Katie excitedly shares the preparations for her wedding with Andy. She pushes Sylvia to take up the wedding planner role as an experiment and she reluctantly agrees. It must be said that Sylvia does seem excited to see if she can work as an event planner.
Charlie and Sylvia host a housewarming party for friends and family. Everything seems to going normally until the lights go out. Since it is already dark, the mood is spoilt. But Will takes it upon himself to fix it, noticing that he simply has to plug them back in from the roof. Sylvia accompanies him to the top. They get to talking after Will fixes the lighting.
It turns out that Johnny Revv does not mix business with pleasure and has offered Will a job to head up the beer division of his chain. He mentions it is unlikely he will be going back to the Bar, even though he loves it with all his heart. In a bizarre moment, both Sylvia and Will profess to seeing a UFO whizz past above their heads. They are incredulous and report their sighing downstairs. Their enthusiasm is not translated into belief as the adult guests are not convinced. Sylvia takes a detour and sides with the rational voice in the room. But Will keeps at it and even uses expletives without any control over his mouth.
They have a sidebar in the kitchen but things turn sour quickly. They accuse each other of trying to sabotage the other. Will says that buying a new house will not make Sylvia’s problems disappear, while Sylvia implies that Will is still immature and hasn’t grown out of his teenage personality. Will storms out but still maintains they saw a UFO. Before going to bed, Charlie offers to start a casual investigation with Sylvia into the UFO sighting because he has believed, mathematically, it is possible for them to exist.
Sylvia goes to work late at night on her laptop, scoping out possible destinations for Katie and Andy’s wedding.
How does Sylvia push Will to take the new job?
The next day at work, Will runs into a roadblock with the new “work situation” when Omar asks him to mix M&Ms with the beer. He goes ahead with it, although the result is disastrous.
Sylvia gets a call from a lawyer who reveals to her that Johnny Revv has a history of sexual assault and inappropriate behaviour. She rushes to the bar and beseeches Will to take up the job that was previously offered to him in San Diego.
Jenna, who was the head of the chemistry and food division, is now the new CEO and Sylvia has already talked to her about an interview. Sylvia lays it out for Will: he has been miserable at his job. He needs a fresh start. Inspired by her rant, Will decides to call it quits and sell his entire shareholding in the bar.
Platonic Episode 10 Ending Explained:
Once at the HQ, Will realizes that Sylvia had not talked to Jenna and lied to Will. He presses her to go back without meeting Jenna but the new CEO spots them. The meeting goes as expected and Will lands the job. He and Sylvia celebrate and discuss the new challenges he will be facing in a new place. The realization that they won’t be seeing each other as frequently suddenly dawns upon them, making them emotional. That is all we see until a time jump of one year. Sylvia’s event planning gig has taken off and it is the day of Katie and Andy’s wedding. At the ceremony, she sees Will and Jenna arrive together. Will and Sylvia do not exchange words and look at each other with an acknowledgement of their friendship.
How does Platonic end?
A brief montage plays out showing their many crazy moments together from the show. Will has now bleached his hair pink. The couples sit together after the ceremony to catch up. Jenna reveals her shining ring and the fact that Will and she are engaged. Congratulations break out and Jenna ropes in Sylvia as their wedding planner.
We cut to the final scene of Platonic’s season 1. Will and Sylvia chat about where they are in life. Both are in unison that they saw a UFO that day. Their wild times are fondly cherished by both of them. But they now have a newfound stability and happiness in life that is more adult and mature. Could they have imagined their lives would be this fulfilling a year back?
The Episode Review
Platonic ends on a familiar note as it began. Without complicating things too much, albeit with a brief yet significant time jump, the creators have brought the story to a very satisfactory conclusion. Episode 10 was an ode not just to the friendship but also to the individuals that Sylvia and Will had become.
For a brief moment in their lives when they came together, Will and Sylvia created magic and wild memories. They could escape their boring, messy, adult lives in each other’s company, while simultaneously pushing each other on the right track. The sweetness of their companionship will endure for many years to come.

Good write up. Platonic was definitely not what I expected, but was a really found a good balance in it’s tone.
