In K-drama Perfect Marriage Revenge, Han Jin Woong and Lee Jung Hye adopt Han Yi Joo, a talented artist. The Hanwool Financial Group is run by her dad. However, neither Han Yi Joo’s family members nor her younger sister show her any affection. Currently, Jung Se Hyeok and Han Yi Joo appear to be happily married. However, she discovers that her sister Han Yoo Ra is the one her spouse Jung Se Hyeok is fond of, not her. Han Yi Joo passes away in a car accident on that very day.
On waking up, Han Yi Joo discovers that she has travelled back in time. She then calls off the engagement to Jung Se Hyeok in an attempt to rewrite her destiny and exact revenge on her family. She then goes over to Seo Do Guk, the man Han Yoo Ra, her younger sister, wishes to marry. Seo Do Guk voluntarily agrees to Han Yi Joo’s request to get married.
In this romantic drama, we explore themes of retribution, dysfunctional families, and unconditional love. The plot takes unexpected turns and keeps you on the edge of your seat as it unfolds in an utterly captivating way.
That said, the season’s midway gets a little stale. Nevertheless, it swiftly gains momentum and gets things going.
The story’s characters and their journeys are fascinating. Certain characters undergo remarkable character development, such as Yi-joo, Do-guk, and Yoo-ra. However, the vast majority of the characters lack nuance and complexity, and they are either stereotypically white or black. In light of this, the story comes across as inauthentic and simplistic.
The actors do an exceptional job in their respective roles. Every character serves their intended purpose; the pleasant ones make you want to cheer for them, and the baddies make you want to throw shade in their direction.
The K-drama is a thrilling, captivating, and enjoyable watch from start to finish. That said, if you prefer characters with multiple layers of complexity, you could be disappointed. Everything else about the plot, the acting, and the unexpected turns makes this show entertaining.
