Patna Shukla Plot Summary
Tanvi Shukla is a remarkable woman, juggling her roles as a devoted housewife and a part-time lawyer in Patna, Bihar. Her happy family includes her loving husband, Siddartha, and a mischievous son, Sonu, who keeps her on her toes. Tanvi’s culinary skills are exceptional, and she dreams of opening her own eatery after retiring from her legal practice.
Despite her talents, Tanvi faces criticism from her colleagues at times. They belittle her legal career, suggesting that her true calling lies in cooking rather than arguing cases in court. Even her husband, at times, subtly undermines her, pointing out that she handles “lower-level” cases and hasn’t won any high-profile ones yet.
Tanvi yearns for that one breakthrough case that will promote her from a small-time lawyer to a legal heavyweight. Tanvi’s life takes a turn when Rinki Kumari approaches her, seeking help to file a case against the examination board. Rinki, an outstanding student, is convinced that the university has unfairly graded her exams, deliberately causing her to fail. Tanvi agrees to take on her case and sends a legal notice to the university.
Who is Neelkanth Mishra?
In the defense is Neelkanth Mishara, a big-shot lawyer who’s confident that Tanvi’s petition won’t hold water and the case will be thrown out on day one. In court, Neelkanth pins the blame on Rinki, arguing that she’s not a good student and is merely trying to shift blame for her own mistakes onto the university.
He even brings up Rinki’s past exam results, trying to paint her as a mediocre student. Neelkanth goes a step further, making a sexist remark, saying that the court isn’t like the kitchen, where Tanvi can easily come out on top. Despite his efforts, the judge doesn’t dismiss the case and sets another date for proceedings.
Neelkanth is under pressure to win because some influential names are tied to the case. He’s been warned that failing to win could have serious consequences for him. On the other side, Tanvi is fighting to ensure that the future of an ambitious and responsible student like Tanvi isn’t ruined.
What is the result of recounting?
In the next hearing, Tanvi argues that there’s more to the story than Mishra is letting on. She believes that if there wasn’t, Mishra wouldn’t bother fighting the case. Mishra, as before, tries to shift all the blame onto Rinki, calling her a compulsive liar seeking attention to tarnish Vihar University’s name.
Seeing that the judge isn’t swayed, Mishra suggests that a commission be formed to recheck Rinki’s papers, insinuating that there might have been an error. However, when the papers are recounted, Rinki’s marks remain unchanged. This devastates Rinki, and she blames herself and attempts suicide. Fortunately, she survives.
Who is Raghuvir?
As soon as Tanvi gets home, she starts researching Vihar University, finding past complaints and rumors of deliberately incorrect grades and failing students on purpose. In her investigation, she meets Surendra Mohan, a journalist who has written several articles exposing corruption at Vihar University.
Surendar tells Tanvi about a major scam at the university, where they accept money from undeserving students and change their marks to make them pass. He believes Rinki is just one of many victims of this scam. When Tanvi tries to question the university’s examination board, they refuse to cooperate and kick her out.
Tanvi is also threatened by a politician named Raghuvir, who offers to cover Rinki’s education costs if Tanvi drops the case. It’s revealed that Raghuvir is the student whose roll number was swapped with Rinki’s. With elections approaching, Raghuvir doesn’t want any trouble and wants to handle the case quietly.
How does Raghuvir try to sway Tanvi?
Mishara, aware of Raghuvir’s power and ruthlessness, feels he’s in a do-or-die situation. He brings in a witness who claims to have taken money from Rinki’s father to boost her attendance so she could sit for exams. As a final blow, Mishra asks the court to bar Rinki from taking any competitive exams.
However, Tanvi turns Mishra’s argument against him, using it to prove the corruption within the university. She demands a thorough investigation into the university and Raghuvir Singh. When questioned, Raghuvir denies benefiting from Rinki’s situation and tries to portray himself as a generous man by offering to sponsor Rinki’s education.
The court grants Tanvi an extra week to prepare her case, warning that it will be dismissed if she fails to provide concrete evidence by then. To add pressure, Raghuvir frames Siddharth Sukla, Tanvi’s husband, in a scam, leading to his suspension and a threat of jail time. Raghuvir’s men also bribe the municipal commission to damage Tanvi’s balcony.
Does Tanvi win the case in the end?
Tanvi considers dropping the case, but Siddharth asks her to continue. She revisits Mr. Srivastava of Vihar University, who, realizing his mistake, tells her about Savita. In the next hearing, Savita admits that Rinki’s roll number was swapped with another student’s. However, Mishara proves that she’s lying.
It is later revealed that he had struck a deal with Savita. Tanvi learns from her father that her graduation exam result was swapped with a man named Ansari, a bright student whose career was ruined because of the scam. She tracks down Ansari and convinces him to appear in court, which he agrees to do.
During the final hearing, Tanvi presented Ansari’s testimony, which proves that her marksheet was exchanged with his. This not only exposes the fabrication of Tanvi’s result but also confirms the university’s practice of changing marks. Tanvi wins the case, and the court orders the rechecking of both Raghuvir and Rinki’s papers.
