Paris Has Fallen – Season 1 Episode 5 Recap & Review

Esin

Paris Has Fallen Season 1 Episode 5 starts with Farid making the dirty bomb. Meanwhile, Shaun’s GPS gives the police a new lead. It turns out that Shaun visited a guy named Sami a lot over the past few weeks. Sami is from Afghanistan but got his French citizenship 15 years ago. Based on the evidence, it looks like Sami has ties to Pearce, but the police haven’t figured it out yet.

Zara and Vincent sneak into Sami’s house and bug the place. Zara is nearly caught when Sami abruptly returns, but she manages to complete the mission and escape.

Thanks to their sneaking, they discover Sami is dating the only remaining daughter of Amina. They investigate further and discover that Esin is in the country illegally. They decide to see if Esin is in contact with Pearce and if they can use her. Esin works at a local hotel and they start surveilling her. At the same time, Vincent and Zara push Matis to launch an internal investigation to find Pearce’s mole in their organisation.

Back to Perce, he tells Farid about his tear-jerking experience and what they took from him. Pearce says that he doesn’t expect peace anymore. Farid tells him the bomb is almost ready. Pearce admits that he is not prepared to use the bomb, but if push comes to shove, all bets are off.

Meanwhile, while the police are surveilling Esin, they realise she is paying off the man who snuck her into the country. Zara tells Vincent that things are going well with Thea but it is still awkward. They watch Sami and Esin make dinner and Esin asks Sami if he is willing to leave Paris. Sami says he is good as long as he is with her.

Vincent wonders if Perce had already warned Esin to leave the city because of the bomb. The next day, they stage a whole undercover operation at the hotel and act like immigration officers. Vincent interviews Esin while another officer hacks into Esin’s phone and puts a tracker in her passport. They let her go once they  are done and Sami takes her home

The police find indefinite proof that Esin and Pearce are in communication after checking her phone. Later that night, Esin and Sami are confronted by the debt collector and he threatens them.

He thinks that Sami and Esin told the police about his business. Esin denies it and things get physical as Sami defends her. Vincent breaks the cover and helps Esin. She realises he is not an immigration officer. Zara heavily scolds Vincent for messing up, but he insists he can’t stand by and watch them kill Esin and Sami. He calls her out on her lack of empathy and says he is a robot, addicted to her job.

That night, Farid finishes making the bomb and Esin stays up all night planning her escape. In the morning, she lies to Sami that she is going to buy breakfast and makes a run for it. The police follow her closely, but she gets a burner phone and contacts Pearce.

A few minutes later, Pearce advises her to ditch her passport. The police lose her and she makes her way to Pearce. It seems she sees him as a father figure and embraces him in a hug. With Esin dumping her passport, Vincent and Zara grow more sure that Pearce has a mole. After a long day, Vincent heads to the palace to be with the President. She is worried that Vincent has not forgiven her mistake.

Later, Pearce tells Esin she will have to leave the country. She is worried about Sami and says her mom wouldn’t want the revenge. Pearce asks her to get some rest, but she calls Sami at work to say goodbye. The police track the phone and find Pearce.

However, the mole texts Pearce in advance and gives him time to get ready. When the police get there, Pearce and Freja hold them off as much as they can. The intense shoot-out goes on for a while as Pearce, Freja and Esin wait for their helicopter to arrive. Zara grabs Esin and threatens to kill her unless Pearce surrenders.

He agrees to surrender, but only if Freja and Esin get on the helicopter. Once the two women leave, Pearce peacefully surrenders and is taken into custody.

The Episode Review

Well, this episode took an unexpected turn. It turns out Esin is Pearce’s weakness and humanity. He will do anything to protect her including giving himself up. However, he must have a plan to escape already. The police need to find the mole before they can help Pearce break out of custody.

It was a smart move on Zara’s part to grab Esin. She just made one of the biggest arrests in her career. On the other hand, there is Vincent. He is trying to get over the whole Amina fiasco, but it is not easy.

His relationship with the President was never feasible from the beginning. It would be better if they end it here before someone gets their heartbroken. The truth is, that Vincent can’t stand by and watch anyone suffer.

He will always resent her for killing three innocent people. He has a noble soul and can’t live with the many ugly and dark choices that a president makes every day.
