A slow-burn political drama that gets better towards its end

The Viral Fever aka TVF has been a popular content creation platform that has evolved from being a YouTube channel to a cult classic production house that produces original content targeted at the Indian Youth. After the success of the first two seasons of Panchayat, TVF along with Prime Video has released a third season of Panchayat starring Jitendra Kumar, Neena Gupta and Raghubir Yadav in the lead roles.

The show has dropped all 8 episodes of Season 3 and is already garnering much attention on the streaming network. This season of Panchayat narrates the continuation of Abhishek Tripathi’s story as the Secretary of Phulera Village Council. The season continues from where we left off and the village council members led by Pradhan try to stop Abhishek’s transfer after their clash with MLA Chandrakishore Singh.

With Abhishek returning back to Phulera, he tries his best to avoid the village politics but struggles to maintain his stance when Phulera’s Bhushan and his wife – Kranti Devi try contesting in the Panchayat elections against Pradhan and Mrs Dubey. Will Abhishek manage to prepare for his CAT exams while being at the centre of village politics?

The show is a slow-burn political drama and the comedy is more nuanced now as the seasons progress than in the first season. With the villagers, especially Prahlad still grieving the death of his son Rahul, there is a lot more character development to all the characters on the show. Abhishek who once hated the idea of working in a small town like Phulera now has friends there along with a potential romantic connection.

Moreover, we can also see how Mrs Devi Dubey (played by Neena Gupta) has evolved over the three seasons. From relying on her husband Pradhan to take political decisions for her to voice her opinions in front of the village council, Mrs Dubey’s character is very enjoyable to watch.

Moreover, the friendship between Abhishek, Pradhan, Prahlad and Vikas is heart-warming. It will be very interesting to see this dynamic change if Abhishek and Rinki start dating in the years to come. The season includes a hilarious special appearance and fans of Season 1 of Panchayat will enjoy this one a lot.

Panchayat Season 3 starts off strong and eventually slacks off somewhere in the middle. However, if the viewers stick through the slow episodes 5 and 6, the season concludes on a very strong note in the finale. With Abhishek finally losing his calm and butting heads with MLA Chandrakishore in the finale, we can expect a lot more chaos when Season 4 of Panchayat releases.
