Of Mothers and Daughters
Episode 6 of Paatal Lok season 2 begins with Reuben confronting his mum. It’s a fiery encounter and while this is ongoing, Meghna continues to investigate this case. She’s joined by Chaudhary, who crowbars himself into this and she doesn’t really have much of a choice to be fair!
Given there are crooked cops here in Nagaland, Meghna takes Chaudhary to the hospital with her, where Rose is currently being looked after. Unfortunately, they have no lead on the shooter and in fact, there’s a shoot-to-kill order out for Reuben too.
Now, neither of these guys are aware of Daniel’s involvement, and he happens to be outside staking the hospital, waiting for a time to strike. He takes a picture and bides his time.
Chaudhary soon learns that Reuben is in connection with the Reddy’s and their hotel. In fact, Kapil Reddy appears to have been in the process of selling his hotel chains and leaving Nagaland completely.
There must be a big reason for this, so Chaudhary gets Virk involved in the case too, in order to try and figure out what the connection is. This only strengthens Chaudhary’s resolve, as he becomes more convinced that there’s no way Reuben killed Bajoria.
Unfortunately, news of Rose’s whereabouts leaks to the media, thanks to Daniel, and it causes a big ruckus outside the hospital. Thom’s supporters show up in droves. Given we’re still not sure if Rose actually killed Jonathan or not, this is a very tenuous situation and soldiers even block the road too.
That’s certainty not going to stop Chaudhary though, who arrives at the hospital and races to get Rose. Unfortunately, there’s big drama outside when James, one of the officers, kills a kid in the crowd. This causes the mob to grow even more restless and violent.
Thankfully, one of the party supporters inside is apprehended by Meghna, but there’s only so much they can do here.
As things start heating up, it’s Daniel who arrives and breaks the barricades, allowing the protestors to flood inside. With little other choice, and Rose’s life hanging in the balance, they decide to take her out the back. It’s touch and go though, given she can’t be without a ventilator for longer than 10 minutes so they have an ambulance all ready to go.
Chaudhary shows up and manages to stop a couple of protestors from getting too close, and thankfully they do manage to get away. Chaudhary is almost captured while buying the others precious time, but he does manage to hop aboard before it’s too late.
While getting patched up, we learn some crucial intel that we missed earlier on. When Esther left the bar quickly, she mentioned how she has an uric acid condition, which sees the leg swell up and cause a limp if she drinks too much.
If you’ll remember, there was also the testimony from one of the homeless men too, who mentioned how there was someone at the station with a limp. Could this be Esther? And could it explain the missing money?
Well, Chaudhary seems to think so and shows up at her place, demanding answers. Here, Esther reveals that Rose was sending money for her child. Esther tried to help her quit drugs but she was also consumed by fear surrounding Thom. She was convinced that Thom would kill her and the babe if he found out about the illegitimate child he has. Rose left for Delhi and tried to find a job, promising to come back for Jane. But she never did.
Rose then called 3 weeks back and mentioned how she was getting a large sum of money from somewhere. She promised she’d be coming to take Jane away across the border. This explains who she was crossing the border with, it wasn’t Raghu after all. When Esther showed to see Rose, she found her face down with drugs all around and decided to leave, not believing that she’d ever be able to look after her own child.
Turns out it wasn’t Jonathan Thom sending money – it was his wife, Asenla. She’s the one in connection with Grace Reddy too, and there’s no love lost here given the affair going on. Grace kept it a secret for a long time and Asenla resents her for it. Rose contacted Asenla when she lost her job and basically blackmailed her into submission.
As the episode closes out, Reuben, who’s in hiding, decides to take his chances and contact Chaudhary.
The Episode Review
So we finally see the link that Rose has to this entire mess and it seems like she’s embroiled in the middle of this, while the women are the ones pulling the strings and causing everything to spiral out of control.
If that wasn’t bad enough, we also have a lot of drama involving Reuben too, who’s now in hiding and being pinned for the murder of Ansari. This shoot-to-kill order is not going to do him any favours and it remains to be seen if he can make it out in one piece or not.
What’s clear though is that this drama is far from over, and quite who will come out on top is anyone’s guess.
