Paatal Lok – Season 2 Episode 2 Recap & Review

Kohima Calling

Episode 2 of Paatal Lok season 2 starts in the slums as a woman reprimands her son for finding a phone, which he’s stashed in the rice container. Apparently he found it on the tracks, and he did this to dry it out. It doesn’t take long before we learn that this phone belongs to Rose Lizo.

Meanwhile, Ansari is frustrated by bureaucracy when Bhardwaj shuts down his suggestion of bringing Chaudhary on board and linking these two cases together after reviewing the footage from the station. However, the pair do have a little reunion, although things are tense as they do, given the balance of power here has now shifted and Ansari is the superior.

Chaudhary is on the case though and he heads back to check out Jigo’s shop, which is all locked up, as if he’s left in a hurry. There’s clearly a link between this place and what happened with Rose and Raghu, so he breaks in that night and starts rooting around for clues.

Naturally, Chaudhary starts looking into the train too and he winds up finding those same shady men from the hospital rooting around. Now, these men including Jogi, who leaves the station and meets with a bunch of other men, lead by Ranga.

Chaudhary knows what he’s doing though and manages to tail them to the abandoned warehouse they’re operating out of. Scouting the place, it becomes clear that this is a drug operation at a pretty large scale. It doesn’t take long for Chaudhary to bust Ranga, and he rings Ansari after, asking for help and reiterating they don’t have much time.

Jogi and the other workers are unaware of this and wind up hunting around for Chaudhary, who ferries all the labourers off to a hidden locale so they won’t get hurt. Thankfully their stalling is enough for the police to arrive and bust the whole operation. This makes the news and despite Chaudhary being the one to actually report and sort this, it’s Ansari and SHO Virk that gets the plaudits.

Now, this operation appears to be linked to Mallik, the nightclub owner connected to Rose, but before we get there, Chaudhary and Ansari interrogate Jogi – quite forcefully I may add! It turns out Gita found out what they were doing and intended to go to the cops. The men working panicked and in the heat of the moment, pushed her, which caused her to get run over.

Raghu was apparently fired after being caught red-handed at the station with 50,000 rupees. Apparently this money was for his “lady”, and it appears he was cheating on Gita with Rose. They were seemingly looking to run away together but when Mallik found out, he beat the guy down.

Mallik shows up voluntarily at the station to offer his statement, coolly retorting that Rose was just an employee and apparently there was nothing untoward going on between them, given he’s due to get married soon. However, both Ansari and Chaudhary know this may just be a cover, and decide to obtain Mallik’s phone records from that night.

While news breaks of a bunch of mercenaries online claiming the death of Jonathan Thom, Chaudhary is in hot water at home with Renu. He brings back Gita’s kid to stay with them, and of course it’s another mouth to feed. Also, just rocking up like this without even telling her isn’t exactly a great look either!

Renu is understandably not happy about this, especially as Chaudhary is en-route to leave and head to Nagaland the next day. Now, part of this visit stems from the fact Rose has been noticed at the local station but she manages to slip away, raising big questions over exactly what role she has to play here.

The Episode Review

Alas, the plot thickens. It’s clear that there’s still tensions between Ansari and Chaudhary but the pair clearly have respect for one another and they’re both getting closer to the truth.

On that same note, something clearly happened to Raghu but whether he’s actually dead or not is still up for debate. Rose definitely holds the key to figuring this mystery out though and the series has done a good job so far in uncovering the mystery slowly.

Quite what will happen next is anyone’s guess, but thankfully we don’t have to wait too long to find out!
