Oshi No Ko – Season 2 Episode 12 Recap & Review

Reunion

Episode 12 of Oshi No Ko Season 2 begins with a scene between Sarina and Gorou. Then, we return to the present timeline. In it, Ruby, MEM-cho, and Kana listen to the song Himura made for them. Then, we cut away to MEM-cho walking somewhere at night. MEM-cho calls her friend Anemone.

MEM-cho tells Anemone about Himura’s song. Anemone insists they record a music video of MEM-cho and her friends performing the song at Miyazaki. MEM-cho’s unsure, but Anemone eases MEM-cho up to it. MEM-cho says she’ll discuss Anemone’s idea with Miyako.

Then, we cut away to Kana arriving at the airport. Kana isn’t thrilled that Akane is attending Miyazaki with her, Aqua, and the others. Ruby greets Akane with kind words. She hopes Akane and Aqua will be a married couple in the future. Eventually, Aqua and his friends arrive at Takachio, a town in Miyazaki.

Anemone greets them all. While Ruby looks at the area’s statues, Anemone shares details about Takachio with Kana and the others. She brings up the goddess of performing arts and Aqua confirms that deity is called Ame-no-Uzume-no-Mikoto.

Anemone tells everyone that people love worshipping this deity. She says the deities are known for giving folks good luck. Kana wants to visit the deity’s shrine but Anemone insists they focus on filming the music videos. Anemone, Kana, and the others leave Akane and Aqua behind. Akane insists they visit Ama-no-Iwato’s shrine.

Aqua suggests they visit a hospital. He explains why that hospital is significant to him and Ruby. The two head to the hospital and Aqua speaks with one of the female workers there. He asks her questions about Gorou. The lady leaves and returns seconds later with no information to share.

Aqua and Akane visit a hilltop. He wants to locate Gorou’s body but argues it’d be pointless. Aqua and Akane visit Gorou’s former home. He tells Akane that everyone who lived here died long ago.

Aqua tells Akane who lived here and what happened to this individual when he lived here. He discusses Gorou’s initial surgeon goals, Gorou’s relationship with his grandparents, and Gorou’s desire to adapt to a lifestyle that would help him fit in with others.

Then, we enter a flashback. In it, Gorou’s sitting next to Sarina. Sarina is ill in bed and Gorou’s holding an Ai keychain Sarina won from a machine. The crow girl reflects on Aqua and Ruby’s situation. Meanwhile, Anemone films Ruby, MEM-cho, and Kana doing casual things. MEM-cho discusses Anemone’s methods with Ruby. Kana chimes in and shares her knowledge of the situation with Ruby. Later, we see Ruby, Kana, and MEM-cho at the music video film set.

Aqua and Akane arrive and discuss things with MEM-cho. Then, Kana notices Aqua and Akane nearby. Kana shows off her outfit and Akane interrupts their discussion. Akane fixes Kana’s outfit and offers her fashion advice. Kana asks Aqua if she looks cute and Aqua says she gets a “passing mark,” much to Kana’s disappointment.

Then, Anemone snaps photos of everyone. Later, Akane and Aqua observe Kana, MEM-cho, and Ruby performing their music video from a distance. Aqua believes Kana will become successful in the future. Akane tells Aqua he should stop going on dates with Kana. She argues a single storm of criticism would be fatal for popular idols.

Aqua understands. After filming, Akane and Ruby go for a walk. Ruby spots a crow and the crow steals her room key. She and Akane chase the crow. Ruby and Akane continue following the crow. While walking, Ruby insists Akane join B-Komachi. Akane rejects Ruby’s offer. She argues being an idol wouldn’t work out well for her.

Ruby says she wants to pursue acting after she achieves her idol goals. She asks Akane about age gaps and reveals details about the person she’s in love with. Ruby tells Akane she doesn’t know where the man she loves is. However, Ruby hopes to see him one day.

Then, Ruby and Akane find a random cave and Akane suggests they depart since there is a dead body inside. Ruby notices the man is Gorou, the man she’s been rambling to Akane about. The episode ends with the star in Ruby’s eye growing dim.

The Episode Review

Oshi No Ko Season 2 Episode 11 will hit fans’ souls hard. It’s nothing too devastating, but there are a couple of scenes inserted throughout this chapter that’ll do the trick. From Sarina and Gorou’s discussions to Aqua’s concerns for Kana, fans will love this episode’s material.

Additionally, it’s disheartening to see Ruby, this show’s beacon of light, get hit with a dark dose of reality. This episode shows audiences that those with the strongest sense of optimism and passion can have their souls crushed by an unexpected occurrence. The lead-up to that reveal was executed well too.

Also, this episode gives us some wonderful background details of Gorou’s character and Takachio’s landscape. From Gorou’s family troubles to Takachio’s lore, fans will appreciate Aka Akasaka for sharing these juicy details with them. But all in all, this was a great episode of Oshi No Ko Season 2

It contains great tension, a bundle of wholesome content, and an exceptional look into our protagonists’ former aliases. I’m excited to see what the season finale reveals to this anime’s fandom.
