One Piece (Anime) – Episode 1100 Recap & Review

One Piece

Episode 1100

Akainu learns Luffy is in Egghead and becomes furious. He tells the officers to stop Lucci from fighting and make him wait for the Navy to arrive. Besides many soldiers and vice admirals, Kizaru is also going there on a mission.

While the scientists evacuate, Chopper and Jinbe also prepare to run away, carrying Bonney and Atlas. They call Luffy, but he doesn’t move. They notice he’s mad with Lucci and try to convince him to avoid fighting. However, he doesn’t listen to them. CP-0 also tries to stop Lucci, but the fight begins either way.

Luffy and Lucci are almost evenly matched, even with Haki. But Lucci makes a mistake when he asks about the wanted poster. The pirate laughs and starts his transformation. Luffy remembers the first time he used Gear 5 and the drums of liberation start.  As he hits his chest, rays of Conqueror’s Haki fill the place and his hair turns white. Then, he laughs historically while the ground shakes and changes shape, surprising his friends.

Lucci smiles saying it will be fun, but he doesn’t even get time to think when Luffy approaches him. Luffy sends him flying with a single punch that destroys one of the buildings too. Watching from the cameras, Shaka recognizes the form and calls him the white warrior. Vegapunk listens to that and gets shocked.

Lucci transforms into his Leopard form, but he’s in an awakened state too. He’s extremely fast and tries to confuse Luffy with his speed. Even so, the pirate avoids his attack and jokes about it. Their fight gets more chaotic and they start destroying all the buildings there.

Meanwhile, Vegapuk reunites with Shaka and the others to watch Luffy’s fight. When the crew says they are seeing an ability of the Gum-Gum fruit, he says the fruit doesn’t exist, which surprises everyone. The scientist tells them Luffy resembles Nika, the Sun God, in that form.

Vegapunk says Nika was erased from history, but as long as people yearn for it, its existence will never disappear. It exists because people desire it, just like the Devil Fruits. They are manifestations of the people’s aspirations for human evolution. The different powers represent the diverse futures of humanity. For being unnatural, the users receive a punishment from the mother of nature, the sea. He theorizes that the power-users live in different realities that someone dreamed up.

Sentomaru arrives with more Seraphim and decides to help Vegapunk by going against CP-0. The Pacifistas obey a hierarchy of authority, and he’s a higher priority. So, he makes S-Bear attack Kaku and Stussy.

Luffy continues his chaotic fight against Lucci, who is losing it. The pirate uses a combination of his powers and the environment to throw his opponent far away. Thinking the battle is already over, Luffy goes to talk with Sentomaru. However, Lucci stabs the marine from behind and reclaims control of the Seraphims.

The Episode Review

This is definitely one of the best Gear 5 episodes! The way the animation is so goofy and chaotic fits Luffy perfectly and even influences the fight. That’s how this ability has to feel: totally unhinged. Also, having a flashback to the first time he transformed and hearing the drums of liberation again is awesome.

Meanwhile, Lucci feels feral. When he transforms into his awakened state, it seems we’re seeing a monster coming out of the shadows. He’s no match for Luffy right now, but that helps make him feel like a big threat. The animation’s fluidity is essential in presenting both opponents the way they are.

The revelation about the Devil Fruits is exciting and mind-boggling. It takes the take for being one of the most interesting aspects in One Piece currently. Often, some elements in shows and movies get worse after receiving some kind of explanation. Happily, this only makes them better. It would be great if Oda had some plans to expand on that idea in other ways.
