One Day – Season 1 Episode 10 Recap & Review

Episode 10

Episode 10 of One Day begins in a chapel, and we see Sylvie and Dex attending the wedding. Emma is also due to attend the same one with some of her old friends from college. So who’s getting married? Remember Tilly, Emma’s ex-roommate and best friend? She is getting married to a gentleman whom she met in a club.

Tilly tells Emma that Dex is here with his girlfriend, who she describes as “disgustingly beautiful.” After months of not being in contact, Emma and Dexter lock eyes, and the expression they both have on their face suggests they’re still not over each other despite never officially dating each other.

At the wedding, Dex also runs into Cal, his old friend he used to knock around in London. Cal is delighted to meet Dex but isn’t happy because Dex never answers his calls or texts.

For a while, the old friends share the titbits of their life. We learn that Cal runs a successful food business and even offers a job to Dex. Come over sometime for dinner, Cal says to Dex. Dex finally goes over to say hello to Emma, which soon turns awkward, and Dex has to walk away.

As the episode goes on, Emma delivers a heartwarming speech telling everyone how she first met Tilly and how a complete stranger later grew up to become the most important person in her life.

Emma reminisces about the happiest four years she spent with Tilly, saying when she was with Tilly, she never had to worry about anything. Tilly was always there, through thick or thin, to support her, says Emma. She also quotes one of Dicken’s most famous lines, blessing both Tilly and her husband with a great married life ahead.

Dex convinces Emma to take a walk with him, away from all the hustle-bustle of the wedding. We learn that Emma is now an author, has published her first book, and has also been given a massive advance for her next. Dex also reveals that Cal might’ve offered him a job. Dex goes on to talk about how he has messed up his career and has no idea where his life is going.

The biggest shock comes when Dex reveals that he is engaged and is soon to marry Sylvie in seven weeks. Dex also invites Emma to his wedding, saying she must be there for his shotgun wedding. Moreover, Sylvie is also expecting. From what it appears, Emma harbors no hard feelings for Dex despite all the harsh insults he hurled at her a year ago.

She’s genuinely happy that Dex is now going to be a father and has found a great woman. At the same time, Emma can’t help but shake the feeling that she has lost Dex all over again.

However, Dex assures her that he’ll never drift away from her and will always be her friend. As the episode nears its end, they kiss each other but quickly pull away, realizing it’s not right and that it would only complicate things.

The Episode Review

Episode 10 brought some satisfying moments but also added complications to the mix. Dex’s career is in a rough spot, with no gigs in sight, and he’s facing an impending marriage to Sylvie with a baby on the way.

Dex is even considering Cal’s offers, thinking having some money is better than none, especially with a wedding and parenthood looming. Meanwhile, Emma is happy for Dex but can’t help but wonder what could have been if they were together.
