Not Dating Yet
In episode 4 of Not Dead Yet, Nell leaves her room while Edwin plays a computer game called Space Shift. Nell gets hold of her phone, and on her social media notices that Philip has posted a picture of him and his new girlfriend, a famous pastry chef in Paris. She is devastated.
Nell interrupts Edward and demands to know if the lady in the picture looks like her. To which Edward replies that her eyes aren’t as hooded as hers.
She heads out to take her coffee when Rand, the ghost for this episode, reprimands her for giving more money than how much her coffee costs. She argues with him, which looks weird to other people. As we soon find out, Rand is a celebrated mathematics genius. She heads to the office, and her friend Denis asks her about Philip and proceeds to say that the said lady is beautiful. She runs into Simon, the new intern and tells him to get any information about the new girlfriend.
She gets in, and her friend Sam tries to comfort her. A colleague called Tina tells her that she heated her salad on her behalf but goes on not to give the salad to Nell. Sam, Lexi and Dennis meet up and go through her quite dry socials and decide whether to set her up with other people.
Lexi calls in Nell and learns they want to set her up, but she becomes defensive. She understands that Philips’s girlfriend is the perfect girl and folds, demanding to be set up with any man.
Her first date is interesting, and he uses acts of service to not proceed with the date. They meet Edward, and an introduction later, friendship blossoms. The two newfound friends meet up and play a computer game. While back in the office, Lexi sets her with a family friend, but the friend gives an excuse and leaves. Nell thanks them for the thoughtful gestures and leaves crestfallen. Rand then comforts her and tells the girl that relationships are unsolvable equations, to which Nell replies that she might be just like him.
Sam finds her, tries to comfort her, and asks if she is okay; this is because she is seen talking to thin air instead of the ghosts. After all, she is the only one who can see them. Sam sets her up with her friend, whom they meet up with. It’s here that we learn that he is a father. He rumbles on about his kids and, in the process, becomes friends with Sam because she is also a mother of two. He receives a call from home and cancels the date.
Elsewhere, Nell meets up with Cricket and asks her if she thinks love is an unsolvable equation. To which she replies about giving love time. In the process, she meets another ghost called Jesse, who is picture-perfect. They spend a fantastic time together, and she realizes that he is a ghost when they take a picture together, and he doesn’t appear in the frame at all.
The Episode Review
I liked this episode because it dealt with heartbreaks and how often our friends try to cheer us up. What l didn’t like was that we didn’t have a final article on Rand and didn’t see much interaction between the two.
There is always this idea that we need to move on from a relationship and find someone else in order to be happy but I don’t think so. The heart should be allowed to heal in its own time and we don’t need to be in a relationship to be happy. It is also not a competition about who moves on faster. All things considered, I hope Nell finds happiness and heals soon.

Came to read a review after watching the episode since it left me feeling quite heartbroken, but got distracted by the “Edwin” and “Simon”, ugh. Jesse also deserved a better remembrance than a sentence, but hey, what do I know, I’m personalizing all these feelings about fictional characters I just learned about.
