No Good Deed Episode 8 starts with Lydia and Paul examining the two bullet casings. Lydia suggests they open Jacob’s autopsy, which they had sealed, to find out the truth. Another argument ensues, and they fight about how they have been coping with Jacob’s death.

After learning that Paul knew about Jacob’s kleptomaniac tendencies, Lydia feels angry that he didn’t tell her or try to help their son. She wants to leave, but Paul offers to leave instead.

In the meantime, Carla gives birth to her son and reveals the truth about her dad to Dennis. Denise is disappointed that Carla told Dennis about his true origins. Dennis is pissed that his mom lied about his biological dad and storms off. Later, they get a message that Paul accepted their offer on the house. Poppy, who is currently Carla’s doctor, informs her about the murder, forcing Dennis and Carla to rethink their decision to buy the house.

What happens between J.D and Margo?

After J.D. finds out that Margo’s dead brother is alive and she tricked him, he is pissed. He nearly kills Bobby, Margo’s brother. In the meantime, Margo kidnaps J.D.’s daughter and takes her to a hotel as she plans her next move. She ends up taking the kid to Lydia’s house and asks Emily to look after her for a while.

She heads home and has a confrontation with J.D. She falsely accuses J.D. of physically assaulting her and her brother offers to be her witness. The siblings corner J.D. and Margo demand the house.

Who killed Jacob?

After Lydia gets a call from the Chief Medical examiner’s office, she learns that Abbi pretended to be her lawyer and got the sealed autopsy record of their son. She visits Abbi, and they talk about the case. Abbi thinks that J.D. killed Jacob. The gun used in Jacob’s death is a 40 calibre, and Lydia’s gun is a nine millimetre.

Initially, Lydia doesn’t believe Abbi until she returns home and finds out that Margo left J.D.’s daughter at their house. Margo told Emily that J.D. is off his meds and she is worried that he will hurt them. Lydia shares Abbi’s theory and they start suspecting J.D. When J. D. drops by to pick up his daughter, Paul confronts him.

They realise that Margo was having an affair with Jacob. Paul and Lydia conclude that maybe J.D. killed their son after learning the truth about his affair with his wife. However, J.D. is just learning more truths about his wife, Margo, or, should we say, Luana? Paul tries to lock him up in the secret compartment but as they talk, he realises J.D. is innocent.

Simultaneously, Lydia visits Margo and confronts her. Margo reveals that she knew Jacob was a kleptomaniac and blames J.D. for his murder. In actuality, she was the one who killed Jacob after he stormed into her house to steal the jewellery he gave her. He was hurt that Margo ended their affair and threatened to tell J.D. everything. She followed him back to his house and shot him to keep her secret. Lydia pulls a gun on Margo and leaves after taking the gun Margo used in the crime.

How does No Good Deed end?

After learning the truth, J.D. burns down his house with Margo in it. She survives and is arrested six months later. In the meantime, Dennis and Carla decide to buy the burnt house and build their dream home. Dennis’s book is a success, but he is hiding the 5 million dollars that Carla’s dad sent as a gift for his grandson.

As for Lydia, she and Paul rejuvenate their relationship. The closure gives them the space to heal as a family. Lydia returns to playing the piano and rebuilds her relationship with Emily.

Meanwhile, Poppy and Abbi buy the mansion and excitedly start planning their new lives as they wait for the birth of their kid.

The Episode Review

No Good Deed ends with a happy ending for Lydia and her family. The family gets closure and is able to move forward with their life. I think learning that Emily didn’t kill Jacob allows Lydia to make peace with selling the house. She also returns to playing the piano and stops punishing herself.

The ending falls a bit short given that we had been waiting for the big reveal and the writers built a lot of suspension in the previous episodes. One can’t also help but wonder if some storylines were important to the plot. For example, Mickey’s son’s appearance and the whole blackmailing subplot.

Still, once you choose to overlook some of the glaring plot holes, the show is fun, and the pacing is just right. Thankfully, the stellar cast in the show helps us maintain interest in the mystery. If you are looking for an easy binge-worthy comedy with a slice of mystery, No Good Deed is a good choice.
