The Potential Buyers
There are three couples and a developer interested in the house. All of them are intertwined in each other’s lives without knowing it. They are also keeping big secrets from each other.
The first couple, Abbi and Poppy, want to buy the house because they have fallen in love with it. Abbi works for the District Attorney while Poppy is a doctor. Abbi thinks it will give them a fresh start after multiple failed IVF treatments. She believes they are done trying for a baby and wants to embrace the other joys of life. However, Poppy is secretly continuing with the treatments and successfully falls pregnant. Once she comes clean to Abbi, the latter makes it her mission to buy the house.
After seeing Paul hide the gun in the piano, her curiosity grows, and she becomes more interested in the house. After learning that Lydia and Paul’s son was killed in a robbery gone wrong that remains unsolved, she starts looking into the case.
The second couple, Carla and Dennis, got married quickly after she fell pregnant. They are still learning about each other and trying to make the best of the situation. Dennis is the typical mother’s boy. He wants his mom to move in with them, but Carla is not excited about living with her mother-in-law.
It is already frustrating enough that Dennis is too close with his mom and they make all their decisions together. On the other hand, Carla is hiding the fact that her dad is a billionaire from her husband. She and her dad have a strained relationship, but she borrows one million from him to put an offer down for a different house. She is determined to keep some distance between herself and Denise, even if it means asking her father a favour.
At the same time, Dennis is lying about finishing his book, and his mom is lying about Dennis’s biological dad. When Dennis has a health scare, the truth comes out. After talking about it, the couple agree to forgive their parents and give them a second chance. To win Carla’s favour, her dad sends a five million dollar cheque but Dennis hides it from his wife.
Lastly, we have Margo and J.D. and they are messy. To be fair, J.D. has been trying to be a good husband. In the past, he gave Margo everything she wanted because he felt guilty about not being present enough. After two failed marriages, he doesn’t want to lose Margo and ends up getting divorced for the third time. His financial manager gives him multiple warnings that the funds are drying out quickly and J. D. hopes to buy the Morgan mansion and move out of their expensive house across the street.
Unfortunately, J.D. learns that Margo has been playing with him the whole time. Everything about her is fake, starting with her name, her supposedly dead brother, and she is having an affair with Gwen. Once her lies blow up her life, she comes up with a new plan to get what she wants.
Who is Mickey?
Mickey is Paul’s younger brother. He was present on the day that Jacob Morgan died. He is one of the few people who knows what happened in that house. He went to prison on a fraud charge, but he is back and blackmailing Paul and Lydia. At first, they give in to his demands.
Lydia sells her beloved piano to get the $80k that Mickey wanted. Mickey gets greedy, forcing Lydia and Paul to come up with different plans to get rid of him. Paul tries to frame Mickey but ends up getting arrested in a big drug stint. Lydia tries to reason with Mickey but loses it and strikes him on the head.
She and Paul think Mickey is dead, and they lock him in the secret compartment in Jake’s room. Thankfully, Mickey is alive, and being locked up helps him detoxify. In the end, they settle their differences and Mickey tries to reconnect with his son, Nate who is now a cop.
What happened in the Morgan Mansion?
Lydia and Paul lost their son three years ago. Their son, Jacob, was a kleptomaniac. On the fateful night that he died, he was returning home after one of his escapades. He was wearing a mask, and his sister mistook him for a robber and fired a gun at him. Lydia and Paul were convinced that their daughter would go to prison.
To protect her, they called Mickey, who helped them stage a robbery. The police assumed that Jacob was killed in a robbery gone wrong. Mickey kept the evidence and was using it to blackmail his brother. After Paul recovers the evidence, they realise that there were two bullet casings from two different guns. They start questioning if their daughter, Emily, truly killed her brother.
