WAGS
Episode 7 of Nobody Wants This starts with Noah being introduced to all of Joanne’s friends. They immediately gossip and Noah slots right in. However, now we’ve got the reverse – Joanne needs to meet up with Noah’s friends at the basketball game
Joanne reluctantly shows and cheers for Noah and the gang, who end up winning as Joanne screams and cheers on the sidelines.
They all head out for victory drinks after, and while the guys like Joanne… the wives do not. They’re immediately frosty with her, especially Esther who’s the ringleader here. Unfortunately, it ends with all the women taking their husbands and leaving. And of course, all of these girls are friends with Rebecca so things are made that much more awkward.
It turns out Joanne has been following Rebecca on LinkedIn and knows that she’s professional and has a lot of positive attributes. Joanne wants to talk to Noah about this, and she’s nervous as the wives are all going to be there too. Joanne believes that Noah’s friends are going to hate her and then that’ll transpire across to the family too.
Noah gives some advice to split up the wives and get to their weaknesses. It works for everyone… except Esther. She has her defences up and Joanne needs to bring in the big guns. That being Morgan. She comes stacked with some alcohol and they all join the gang.
It does the trick and the girls do a drinking game, downing every time the boys miss a basket. Although Noah and the boys lose, the girls all cheer when they miss and can drink more. The ice is almost thawed with Esther too in the midst of this. Almost.
Sasha agrees to drive Morgan home, cracking jokes again about them being the loser siblings. Outside, Rebecca shows up and Esther talks shit about Joanne.
Back at Noah’s place that night, Joanne goes searching through Noah’s cupboard and finds an old photo of Noah and Rebecca together inside a box of memories. She’s immediately spooked and forces a smile when she gets back into bed, pretending everything is okay.
The Episode Review
So we have Joanne meeting Noah’s friends and things don’t go to plan. Until they do, and everyone drinks alcohol. Once more though, there’s very little in the way of actual conflict here and the series struggles to define a cohesive narrative in a way that makes this worth sticking with.
It’s annoyingly straight-shooting and in desperate need of more drama, but the show is almost chastised in the way it holds back from being more flamboyant. Well, 3 more episodes to go guys.
