Movies And Shows Coming To Shudder USA In May 2023

There is much to look forward for Shudder subscribers this May, including Triangle director Christopher Smith’s latest movie, Consecration, and the premiere of Isolation which takes a look at the darker side of social media.

Poison For The Fairies (1986)

The innocence of childhood is turned on its head in this Mexican horror movie about a lonely young girl named Flavia who befriends a strange girl at her school who dreams of becoming a witch. Their games, which become increasingly sadistic, escalate to the point where they violently murder their piano teacher! The camera in this cleverly constructed tale of terror is situated at the kids’ height so the audience can see everything from the children’s point of view.

Husera: The Bone Woman (2022)

A pregnant woman finds herself threatened by occult forces in this supernatural body horror film from Mexico. Natalia Solián (Red Shoes) stars as Valeria, the expectant mother who starts to have doubts about motherhood when she starts having visions of ‘The Bone Woman, ‘ a malevolent being who poses a threat to her unborn baby.

May 15

The Babadook (2014)

If you discover a storybook about a sinister creature called The Babadook in your child’s bedroom, we recommend that you destroy it immediately. This is something the single mother tries to do in this critically acclaimed horror story when the terrifying being from the book starts to manifest itself physically in her home!

The Devil’s Doorway (2018)

This Irish horror movie isn’t based on a true story but it is representative of the real-life women who became pregnant out of wedlock and were sent to live in a Catholic convent where they were subjected to grueling labor and abuse. The two priests at the heart of this tale make this shocking discovery when they are sent by the Vatican to investigate a miraculous event in one such home for ‘fallen women.’

May 19

Consecration (2023)

Christoper Smith (The Banishing) directs this religious horror movie about a woman named Grace (Jena Malone) who isn’t convinced her priest brother’s death was suicide. She journies to the Isle of Skye to visit the convent where he was last seen alive and discovers her brother wasn’t the only person in the area to have died in mysterious circumstances.

Fangoria Chainsaw Awards 2023

David Dastmalchian (The Suicide Squad) hosts this annual award ceremony that recognizes achievements in horror film and television. This year’s nominees include X, The Black Phone, Nope, Stranger Things, and the unbelievably gory Terrifier 2.

May 22

In Their Skin (2012)

After the loss of their 6-year-old daughter, Mary and Mark Hughes retreat to their vacation home with their young son. Their hoped-for peaceful getaway becomes anything but when their time away is violently interrupted by a dangerous family who invades their living space. Selma Blair and James D’Arcy star in this psychological horror movie that has been favorably compared to Michael Haneke’s unnervingly brilliant home invasion thriller Funny Games.

Influencer (2022)

Social media influencer Madison (Emily Tennant) seems to be having a good time in Thailand – this is the image she presents to her Instagram followers – but she’s secretly having a hard time on her solo trip. Madison’s life threatens to get worse when she meets and befriends CW (Cassandra Naud), a fellow traveller who may not have her best interests at heart when she invites her to an island that is off the beaten path.
