Movies and Shows coming to Amazon Prime Video USA in August 2023

There is a ton of great content coming to Amazon Prime Video this month, with several top-tier movies and brand new TV shows landing on the streaming service.

August 1

The Many Saints of Newark (2021)

Prequel to the HBO award-winning series The Sopranos. The film focuses on young Tony Soprano as he grows up in one of the most tumultuous eras in Newark, New Jersey history.

August 4

The Lost Flowers of Alice Hart – Limited Series

Based on the bestselling novel by Holly Ringland, this seven-part series tells the story of Alice Hart, who at 9 years of age, loses her parents in a tragic and mysterious fire and goes to live with her grandmother on her flower farm. As she reaches womanhood, Alice learns secrets about her family’s past. 

Sigourney Weaver, Alycia Debnam-Carey, and Leah Purcell are among the cast of this promising miniseries.

August 8

Bones and All (2022)

Taylor Russell (Waves) and Timothée Chalamet (Dune) star in this grisly romantic horror movie about a young woman and a drifter who both share an appetite for human flesh. For all the blood and guts that are on display during the movie’s runtime, this is a tender love story about two lonely young people who crave affection as much as they do their next meal.

Destination NBA: A G League Odyssey

This character-driven documentary set during the 2022-2023 basketball season follows some of the most intriguing prospects in the NBA’s developmental league as they compete to earn their place on the NBA roster. 

August 11

Red, White & Royal Blue (2023)

Based on the Casey McQuiston Novel of the same name, this movie centres around the son of the American president (Taylor Zakhar Perez) and a British prince (Nicholas Galitzine) whose long-running feud begins to thaw when they realize they have romantic feelings for one another. Will they be able to keep their relationship a secret? 

August 15

Cocaine Bear (2023)

Keri Russell, Alden Ehrenreich, O’Shea Jackson Jr., and Sweet Tooth’s Christian Convery star in this absurdist comedy-thriller about a huge black bear that goes on a murderous rampage after ingesting cocaine! A reminder, if any was needed, that bringing a picnic into the woods is always preferable to packing drugs into your backpack! 

Of An Age (2022)

In the summer of 1999, a 17-year-old Serbian-born amateur ballroom dancer experiences an unexpected romance with his friend’s older brother. Thom Green (Eden) and Elias Anton (Sunflower) star in this beautifully performed romantic drama. 

August 18

Harlan Coben’s Shelter

Jaden Michael stars in this Harlan Coben adaptation as Mickey Bolitar, a teenager who joins a new school and becomes tangled up in a mystery involving a missing student. With the help of his friends, Mickey investigates the disappearance and discovers unimaginable secrets beneath the sleepy facade of his suburban community.

New Bandits – Season 1

This Brazilian series tells the story of Ubaldo, an unhappy bank clerk, who is called upon to fulfil his destiny as a bandit after arriving in a new town to claim an inheritance.

Unseen (2023)

When Sam (Jolene Purdy), a young woman suffering from anxiety issues, receives a video call from Emily (Midori Francis), a nearly blind woman who is running away from her murderous ex in the woods, she must keep a handle on her nerves and guide the unfortunate Emily to safety.

August 22

The Black Demon (2023)

Just when you thought it was safe to go into the water… comes another shark movie that is guaranteed to make you rethink your summer vacation plans!

This one focuses on oilman Paul Sturges who takes his family to Bahia Negra, a Mexican coastal town that is home to his best-performing rig. The once-vibrant town is now mostly desolate and the reason why soon becomes clear when the last remaining inhabitants warn Paul of a bloodthirsty black demon (in reality, a massive shark) that has laid claim to the local waters.

August 25

Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves (2023)

Based on the tabletop role-playing game Dungeons & Dragons, this recent fantasy action adventure focuses on a charming thief and a band of unlikely adventurers who embark on an epic quest to retrieve a lost relic.

Chris Pine leads the cast as a bard named Edgin and he is joined by Michelle Rodriguez (Holga the Barbarian), Justice Smith (Simon the Sorcerer), and Sophia Lillis (Doric the Druid). 

Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves Movie Review

Wayne Shorter: Zero Gravity (2023)

A cinematic ode to jazz legend Wayne Shorter depicted in three parts, each one representing a different period of his life and music. 

August 29

Champions (2023)

Bobby Farrelly (Shallow Hal) directs this fun but formulaic crowd-pleaser about a former minor-league baseball coach (Woody Harrelson) who is ordered by the court to manage a team of players with intellectual disabilities. 

Women Talking (2023)

Rooney Mara, Claire Foy, and Jessie Buckley are among the cast of this powerful drama about the women of an isolated religious community who come together to figure out a way to build a better life for themselves and their children. 

August 31

Honor Society (2022)

Stranger Things’ Gaten Matarazzo and Spider-Man: Homecoming’s Betty Brant (Angourie Rice) star in this comedy about a high school senior named Honor who is determined to do whatever it takes to earn a place in Harvard. Things take a turn for the ambitious student when she starts to fall for one of her top competitors.
