There is much to look forward to on Amazon Prime Video this month, with several top-tier movies and exciting new shows making their debut on the streaming service.
Check out the highlights below and then keep scrolling to take a look at some of the other titles landing on Amazon Prime Video UK this July.
Please note: This list is correct at the time of writing but as Amazon tends to drop titles onto their service without warning, you can expect plenty more movies and shows to land on Prime Video over the coming weeks.
July 4
Prisoner’s Daughter (2022)
Brian Cox and Kate Beckinsale star in this emotional drama about a dying father who tries to reconnect with his daughter after being granted compassionate release from prison. With Catherine Hardwicke (Twilight) at the helm and a talented cast, you may be expecting a pretty good movie. Unfortunately, critics have been less than kind to Prisoner’s Daughter because of the misaligned script and unrealistic characters.
July 6
Adhura – Season 1
According to the synopsis of this Indian chiller set in an elite boarding school, there is “a secret so dark, it will shake up the lives of everyone connected to it.” What is that secret? We have no idea but it has something to do with a 10-year-old boy and a group of former classmates who gather at the school for a reunion.
Fit Check: Confessions of an Ukay Queen – Season 1
This comedy-drama from the Philippines revolves around a woman named Melanie who wants to make it big as a fashion designer. Here’s the official synopsis:
“Melanie’s dream of making it big in the fashion world draws from her deep interest in Ukay fashion and the pain of being abandoned by her own mother. She finds the opportunity when Chris, a fashion executive of a struggling streetwear company, takes notice of her talents. Determined and committed to her cause, Malanie takes on a tough path to success in a world where she is a nobody and a misfit.”
July 7
Chavorrucos – Season 1
Also known as ‘Manchild,’ this Spanish-language comedy is centered around a psychologist named Regina who gathers together five funny and very peculiar “Chavorrucos” for the purposes of research for a new book she is writing about the different personalities of men.
Robots (2023)
This future-set comedy stars Shailene Woodley and Jack Whitehall as two scam artists who use android doubles of themselves to avoid the time constraints of dating. When their robot replicas go on the run after falling in love and stealing their identities, they team up to track the lovestruck machines down.
The Horror of Dolores Roach – Season 1
Originally created as a one-woman play (and turned into a Spotify podcast), this new Blumhouse television series has been described by Amazon as a “contemporary Sweeney Todd-inspired urban legend of love, betrayal, weed, cannibalism, and survival of the fittest.”
Here’s the official synopsis:
“Dolores Roach (Machado) is released from prison after 16 years and returns to a gentrified Washington Heights. She reunites with an old stoner friend, Luis (Hernandez), who lets her live and work as a masseuse in the basement under his empanada shop. When the promise of her newfound stability is quickly threatened, “Magic Hands” Dolores is driven to shocking extremes to survive.”
July 11
Dune (2021)
Dune is one of the biggest science-fiction movies of recent years although those expecting Star Wars-level thrills might be disappointed. This isn’t to say it’s not worth a watch as visually, the film is absolutely stunning. The story is good too although newcomers to the Duniverse might find it a little complicated and as dry as the desert setting of Arrakis.
A sequel is on the way at the end of this year.
July 14
The Summer I Turned Pretty – Season 2
The next season of this romantic drama is based on Jenny Han’s best-selling It’s Not Summer Without You, the second in her YA series of novels.
Here’s the official synopsis:
“Belly used to count down the days until she could return to Cousins Beach, but with Conrad and Jeremiah fighting over her heart and the return of Susannah’s cancer, she’s not sure summer will ever be the same. When an unexpected visitor threatens the future of Susannah’s beloved house, Belly has to rally the gang to come together—and to decide once and for all where her heart lies.”
July 21
Fifteen-Love – Season 1
Aiden Turner and Ella Lily Hyland star in this British drama series about a former tennis prodigy who makes an explosive allegation against the coach that helped her reach the semi-final at the French Open.
July 24
Till (2022)
In 1955, teenager Emmett Till was murdered in a racist attack while visiting his cousins in Mississippi. His mother, Mamie Till-Mobley, vowed to bring the people who killed him to justice but due to the systemic racism inherent within the Joe Crow South, the men who lynched her son were acquitted of the crime. This powerful movie sheds light on Mamie Till’s story and how her son’s death sparked the Civil Rights Movement in America. Danielle Deadwyler stars as the mother who proved that one person can make a difference.
July 25
You Hurt My Feelings (2023)
From acclaimed director Nicole Holofcener comes this new comedy-drama about a novelist (Julia-Louis Dreyfuss) whose long-standing marriage to her husband Don (Tobias Menzies) is upended when she overhears him giving his honest opinion about her latest book. Judging from the title of the movie, we’re guessing he hurts her feelings!
The movie is very talky, according to critics, but as that talk is witty and incisive, you shouldn’t get bored of the conversational nature of the script.
July 28
Good Omens – Season 2
David Tennant and Michael Sheen return for this second series of the comedy fantasy based on the novel by Neil Gaiman and the late Terry Pratchett. The show revolves around an angel (Sheen) and a demon (Tennant) who try to sabotage the coming of the end times, mainly because they enjoy spending time on Earth. Season 2 will illuminate further light on their unlikely friendship but this time around, they will be joined by the Archangel Gabriel (Jon Hamm) who shows up on Earth with little memory of who he is.
Expect the same imaginative writing and quirky tone that was present in the first series.
