Movies And TV Shows Coming To Amazon Prime UK In September 2022

Amazon Prime subscribers have much to look forward to this month, not least the epic new fantasy saga that is The Lord Of The Rings: The Rings Of Power. If that wasn’t enough, we also have Tenet, Christopher Nolan’s mind-bending sci-fil thriller to look forward to, the stunning Everything Everywhere All At Once, and the Americanized remake of Goodnight Mommy, the Austrian chiller that recently featured in our best of Shudder list

You can expect to see all of these and more but as is usual with Amazon Prime in the UK, many titles will drop randomly throughout the month. As such, the following are just a few of the titles that will be dropping onto the streaming service in September.

1st September

Knock Knock (2015)

Before you answer the door to two sexy strangers, watch this movie as a reminder of what could happen if you let two stranded partygoers into your home. It’s not long before Keanu Reeves’ devoted father regrets letting in the lost women that appear at his door, as his kind gesture soon turns into a night of deadly fun and games as he is seduced and then held captive by these female temptresses.

The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power: Season 1

Set thousands of years before the events of The Hobbit and The Lord Of The Rings trilogies, Amazon’s new series takes us into the Second Age of Tolkien’s Middle Earth. Younger versions of characters we have seen before will feature in this 8-episode epic, including the Elven warrior Galadriel (Morfydd Clark), Míriel (Cynthia Addai-Robinson), the queen regent of Númenor, and Elrond (Robert Aramayo), the Lord of Rivendell. Expect to meet many new faces in this prequel series that includes such events as the forging of the Rings of Power and the rise of the Dark Lord Sauron.

Everything Everywhere All At Once (2022)

Michelle Yeoh enters the multiverse in this insane adventure that has to be seen to be believed. Buckle up for a dizzying rollercoaster ride that is both action-packed and philosophical all at the same time. This is one of the best movies to be released this year and you owe it to yourself to see it!

Tenet (2020)

A thriller that dabbles with quantum physics might not seem like the best choice for an evening of entertainment but Nolan’s stunning movie transcends its dubious premise to deliver an almighty assault on the senses. Robert Pattinson and John David Washington star in Christopher Nolan’s time-bending espionage thriller that features action sequences the likes of which you have never seen before. Prepare to be both amazed and slightly baffled by this mind-blowing reality twister!

Flight/Risk (2022)

Amazon’s powerful new documentary tells the story of those caught up in the aftermath of the tragic events that occurred when two Boeing 737 Max planes crashed in 2018 and 2019. We hear from affected family members, their respective legal teams, and the whistleblowers that shed light on the circumstances surrounding these terrible tragedies.

11th September

The Serpent Queen (Mini-Series)

Samantha Morton, Charles Dance, and Danny Kirrane are among the starry cast in this 8-part period drama series which is based on Leonie Frieda’s book “Catherine de Medici: Renaissance Queen of France.” The series follows Medici’s life as she marries into the French court as an orphaned teenager and explores the battles she fought as both a wife and the ruler of her country.

16th September

A Private Affair: Season 1

Set in the late 1940s in the Spanish region of Galicia, this 8-episode thriller follows Marina Quiroga (Aura Garrido), a daring upper-class woman who turns detective to hunt down the serial killer that has been plaguing her town. She is aided in her mission by her loyal butler (Jean Reno) but her life is made difficult by the gender prejudices that existed at the time and her mother who is keen on marrying her off.

Goodnight Mommy (2022)

When the mother of Lucas and Elias arrives home after having facial surgery, the two boys suspect the woman wrapped beneath a layer of bandages isn’t their mother after all. Is she their mom? Or has somebody else invaded their home? If you have seen the Austrian film on which this remake is based, you will know what to expect from this surprising and gruesome terror tale. Naomi Watts stars.

21st September

Prisma: Season 1

This Italian coming-of-age drama stars Mattia Carrano in dual roles as twin boys who are identical on the outside but who have a very different approach to life.  The series focuses on the twins and the young people around them as they each go on their respective journeys towards finding self-discovery and acceptance.

24th September

Bill & Ted Face The Music (2020)

In this totally bodacious movie, Bill and Ted travel through time again, this time to retrieve a song from their future selves that could save reality as we know it. They aren’t the only ones embarking on a potentially bogus adventure, as their daughters Billie and Theadora journey through time themselves to put together a supergroup that could create the song that saves the universe. This belated sequel isn’t as funny or as extraordinary as the movies that came before it but it’s still a joy to see Bill and Ted back on the screen alongside their most excellent daughters.

30th September

Jungle: Season 1

This 6-part musical drama series follows the interlocking stories of a group of separate strangers in inner-city London and the struggles that each of them goes through as they live out their respective life journies. Using an innovative combination of rap/drill music and scripted dialogue, and featuring some of the U.K.’s top rap and drill artists, including Jordan McCann and Tinie Tempah, this is an urban drama like none other.

My Best Friend’s Exorcism (2022)

Set in the 1980s, this comedy horror tells the story of Gretchen (Amiah Miller) and Abby (Elsie Fisher), two girls who have been best friends since the fourth grade. When Gretchen begins to act differently, it could be supposed that she is going through the usual teenage traumas of puberty. However, Abby suspects her friends’ moody and irritable behaviour is a result of more than just fluctuating hormones. She thinks her friend might actually be possessed by the devil!
