Movies And Shows Coming To Amazon Prime Video UK In January 2023

If you’re looking for something to take away your ‘back to work blues’ after the Christmas break, Amazon Prime have you covered. With some big movies, including Good Luck To You, Leo Grande and Shotgun Wedding, and a number of comedy specials that should hopefully entertain, you have much to look forward to over the coming weeks.

1st January

Good Luck To You, Leo Grande (2022)

Listed as one of our best movies of 2022, this funny and tender movie stars Emma Thompson as a 60-something widow who embarks on a post-marital sexual awakening with the help of sex worker Leo Grande (Daryl McCormack).

6th January

The Rig: Season 1

Iain Glen and Martin Compston are among the cast of this British horror-thriller series about a group of workers on an oil rig who find themselves cut off from the outside world when an eerie fog enshrouds them and supernatural forces take hold.

Cosmic Love France: Season 1

This French spin-off of the popular dating show follows four individuals as they attempt to find their perfect spouse via astrological matchmaking!

Lol Se Rir, Ja Era!

10 of the greatest Brazilian comedians come together in this six-hour special with one specific aim: to make one another laugh! The contestant who manages to keep a straight face will take the prize of 350 thousand reais to donate to a charity of their choice.

Lol Qui Rira Le Dernier?

As above, but this time around, it’s a group of Canadian comedians trying to tickle the funny bones of their fellow contestants.

13th January

Hunters: Season 2

Al Pacino and Logan Lerman return for this second and final series about the secret group of Nazi hunters fighting a clandestine war against the high-ranking Nazi officials working to create the Fourth Reich.

The Test: Season 2

Season 2 of this popular sports series follows the journey of the Australian men’s cricket team during the 2021/2022 season where they play cricket against Pakistan for the first time in two decades, duel with Sri Lanka in the middle of anti-government protests, and go up against their archrivals – the England team.

18th January

Mortal Kombat (2021)

Story-wise, this latest adaptation of the classic fighting game series falls pretty flat. But with lots of great fight scenes, some decent special effects, and fan-pleasing Easter Eggs, this is entertaining enough, even if it doesn’t pull off a ‘flawless victory.’

20th January

legend of vox machina

The Legend of Vox Machina: Season 2

The Dungeons & Dragons-inspired animated series returns. This time, the ragtag band of misfits known as Vox Machina have to save the world from a sinister group of dragons known as the Chroma Conclave who are wreaking havoc across the kingdom.

27th January

Shotgun Wedding (2022)

The wedding plans of Darcy (Jennifer Lopez) and Tom (Josh Duhamel) go awry when their celebrations are disrupted by a band of pirates who take their opinionated families hostage. It’s up to Darcy and Tom to save their loved ones while simultaneously trying to mend their fractured relationship.

Good Rivals: Season 1

The decades-long rivalry between the US Men’s National Team and the Mexico Men’s National Team is the focus of this incisive soccer series.

30th January

Judas And the Black Messiah (2021)

In this critically acclaimed biographical crime drama, Daniel Kaluuya stars as Fred Hampton, the Chairman of the Illinois chapter of the Black Panther Party who fought for an end to police brutality against Black people. LaKeith Stanfield also stars as William O’Neal, the man offered a deal by the FBI to infiltrate the Black Panthers and provide intel on Hampton.

31st January

Nate Bargatze: Hello World

Grammy-nominated comedian and podcaster Nate Bargatze brings his latest stand-up special to Amazon, exploring such topics as growing up in the 80s and 90s, and the hardest things about being married.

  1. Amazon sometimes surprises us with the occasional big releases so here’s hoping they have something special lined up for this month.

  2. Although I’m a subscriber, there’s only one item which appeals to me in this entire month – The Rig. I see the future as being crammed with old movies most of us have already seen and are generally on other channels, plus nothing that is first rate or something to look up to.
