August 1
Gone Baby Gone (2007)
When a 4-year-old girl is kidnapped and the local police make little headway with their investigation, the child’s aunt hires two private detectives to search for the youngster, despite their lack of experience in this kind of case.
Casey Affleck and Michelle Monaghan both give excellent performances in this adaptation of the novel by Dennis Lehane.
Mixtape
Lil Wayne, DJ Drama, and Funkmaster Flex are just a few of the celebrities featured in this new documentary that takes a look at the impact of the mixtape on the world of hip hop.
The Bigfoot Trap (2023)
A journalist who specializes in mocking the people he meets learns to regret his cruel behaviour when his next interviewee – an insane sasquatch owner – imprisons him in a Bigfoot trap!
The Whale (2022)
Brendan Fraser made his career comeback with this emotionally charged tale from director Darren Aronofsky. Adapted from a one-room play by the director, it tells the tale of a morbidly obese English teacher who tries to reconnect with his estranged daughter when he realises he is dying. Fraser deservedly won the Oscar for Best Actor for his moving performance and the makeup team rightly received an award for the onscreen transformation of his character.
August 9
Superfan – Season 1
A fun and fast-paced music-centric game show that tests the knowledge of ‘superfans’ as they are quizzed about their favourite stars.
August 10
Love in Taipei
Based on the New York Times bestseller ‘Loveboat, Taipei’ by Abigail Hin Weng, this new romance movie tells the story of a young American woman who finds love when on an exchange trip in the Taiwanese city of Taipei. There’s only one problem for the lovestruck student, or rather two, as she falls for two wildly different boys who are both vying for her attention.
August 11
All Up In The Biz (2023)
With a mix of celebrity interviews, rare archival footage, and reenactments with puppets, this new documentary from Sacha Jenkins examines the personal and professional story of Biz Markie and the mark he left on hip-hop history and the global music industry.
Billions – Season 7 (premiere)
Damian Lewis returns as Bobby Axelrod for the seventh season of this popular American drama series set in the world of high finance.
Here’s the synopsis for Season 7:
“Alliances are turned on their heads. Old wounds are weaponized. Loyalties are tested. Betrayal takes on epic proportions. Enemies become wary friends. And Bobby Axelrod returns, as the stakes grow from Wall Street to the world.”

Reinventing Elvis: The ’68 Comeback
Feature-length documentary about the making of the TV special that revitalized Elvis’s career and influenced pop culture for decades to come.
Sick Of Myself (2022)
This enjoyable black Norwegian comedy tells the story of an attention-grabbing woman named Signe (Kristine Kujath Thorp) who hatches a vicious plan to reclaim the spotlight when her boyfriend rises to fame as a contemporary artist.
August 17
Mercy (2023)
Leah Gibson, Jonathan Rhys Meyers, and Jon Voight star in this action thriller about a doctor who finds herself in a deadly battle for survival when the Irish mafia seizes control of the hospital at which she works. This Die Hard-type movie about another lone hero up against a dangerous band of terrorists is not worth your time, according to most movie critics.

Organ Trail (2023)
The pretty Montana locations elevate this low-budget (and not very good) revenge western about one woman’s fight to retrieve her family horse from a gang of bloodthirsty bandits.
