July 1

The Integrity of Joseph Chambers (2022)

Then You Run – Limited Series (Sky Max)

This new comedy-drama follows the adventures of four London teens on a getaway in Rotterdam who find themselves on the run with a huge cache of heroin and a gang of deadly criminals tracking their every move. They also have a mythical serial killer known as The Traveller to worry about on this less-than-relaxing summer vacation.

July 8

Broker (2022)

From Shoplifters director Hirokazu Kore-eda comes this heartbreaking comedy-drama about a laundry manager (Song Kang-ho) with a lucrative side hustle: he steals babies that have been left in the care of a church and sells them on the black market! When a mother decides to collect the child she previously gave up for adoption, she catches this baby broker in the act.

The subject matter for Broker is fairly grim but despite the human trafficking plotline, the movie is actually sweet-natured and heartwarming, according to some of the critics who have praised this Cannes favourite.

July 9

Seriously Red (2022)

In this rowdy Australian comedy, a realtor gets tired of her nine-to-five job and swaps out her property career for life as a Dolly Parton impersonator. As she pursues this new way to make a living, she enters into a world of tribute artists and becomes romantically involved with a Kenny Rogers impersonator.

Kreew Baylon stars as the woman who pours herself a cup of ambition and she is joined in the cast by Daniel Webber, Rose Byrne and Bobby Cannavale.

July 14

Breaking Point (2023)

Breakdancing is back in fashion and is set to make its Olympic debut in 2024! July 15

Armageddon Time (2022)

James Gray (Ad Astra) directs this deeply personal coming-of-age story about Paul Graff, a 12-year-old boy who is keen to follow his dreams of being an artist, despite the disapproval of his father.

Anne Hathaway, Jeremy Strong, Anthony Hopkins, and Banks Repeta (as the young dreamer ) star in this absorbing slice-of-life movie.

July 16

Right To Fight (Sky Documentaries)

Directed by BAFTA award-winner Georgina Cammalleri (Bad Sport) and executive-produced by Tim Wardle (dir. Three Identical Strangers) is this new documentary that tells the untold stories of the pioneers of women’s boxing who defied sexism and racism to earn their right to fight in the ring.

The Locksmith (2023)

An expert locksmith (Ryan Phillipe) is sent to prison after being forced to take part in a heist that goes badly wrong. On his release, he tries to get back into the life of his daughter (Madeleine Guilbot) and ex-wife (Kate Bosworth) but it’s not long before his past returns to haunt him. Ving Rhames also stars in this predictable but not-completely-disposable noir thriller.

July 21

Babylon (2022)

Brad Pitt, Margot Robbie, and Olivia Wilde star in this sprawling tale of excess set in Hollywood during the roaring ’20s when cinema was transitioning from silent to sound movies. Damien Chazzelle’s film traces the rise and fall of several ambitious dreamers during this era of unbridled decadence and depravity, including Robbie’s “it girl” Nellie LaRoy who uses more than her natural talents to rise to fame.

July 22

High Heat (2022)

Dubbed “Die Hard in a Kitchen” by one movie critic, this action thriller stars Olga Kurylenko as a chef who has more to worry about than a deflated souffle when the Mafia arrives to burn down her restaurant.

July 23

Sharp Stick (2022)

Lena Dunham’s first movie directorial outing in 12 years (after 2010’s Tiny Furniture), is this emotionally intense drama about a naive 26-year-old (Kristine Froseth) who enters into a journey of sexual awakening after beginning an affair with her older employer (Jon Bernthal).

July 28

I Wanna Dance With Somebody (2022)

Whitney Houston was one of the greatest female R&B pop vocalists of all time and in this film from Harriet director Kasi Lemmons, her story is retold with Naomi Ackie portraying the celebrated music star.

July 29

The Silent Twins (2022)

In this biographical drama, Letitia Wright (Black Panther) and Tamara Lawrance (The Long Song) star as twin sisters June and Jane Gibbins, who became known as the “silent twins” because of their refusal to communicate with anyone but each other.

July 30

The Best Man (2023)

There are some great movies on Sky Cinema this month but this action thriller from Masquerade director Shane Dax Taylor isn’t one of them. Dolph Lundgren and Luke Wilson star in this lame attempt at a Die Hard-style movie about a groom and his best man (both former special ops soldiers) who team up to take down the mercenaries who gatecrash the wedding.
