Movies And TV Shows Coming To Netflix UK In June 2022

Despite Netflix’s controversial price hikes, there is still enough content landing on the streaming platform in June to make the extra expense tolerable. This month, Adam Sandler’s latest movie hits the streaming platform (and it’s surprisingly not awful), Rowan Atkinson faces off against a bee, and Chris Hemsworth stars in a futuristic crime tale that is from the same director as Top Gun: Maverick.

There is all of this and more and you can check out Netflix’s June selection below. The following is correct at the time of writing but as is usual with Netflix, more titles could drop at a moment’s notice.

1st June

The Ledge (2022)

If you’re scared of heights, you might want to be a little wary of this new thriller. It’s about a climber who finds herself trapped on the side of a mountain and if that wasn’t bad enough, she also has to contend with four killers who are standing on an overhanging ledge 20 feet above her. Thanks to this movie and the similar Cliffhanger, you might decide staying at home with a cup of tea is the better option if your best mates ever invite you to go climbing with them.

Two Summers: Season 1

Many of us will be hoping for a relaxing vacation this summer but here’s hoping we don’t get into the predicament that the people in this new series do.

After a group of friends get together for what they think will be some fun in the sun, they find themselves the subject of blackmail when they are sent footage that implicates them in the death of another friend who died 30 years previously.

Is one of them a killer? Are they all killers? All will be revealed if you choose to watch this mystery thriller.

6th June

My Spy (2020)

Dave Bautista stars as the hardened CIA operative whose undercover mission to spy on an unsuspecting mother is thrown into chaos when the woman’s 9-year old daughter makes life very difficult for him. This isn’t the first time an action star has acted with kids – The Spy Next Door and Playing With Fire are two prominent examples – but like those movies, this isn’t very entertaining, so it’s probably one to avoid even if you are a fan of the former wrestler.

Burning Love

This parody of reality dating shows is surprisingly very funny, largely because the cast of characters looking for love at the mansion house where they all assemble are played by some of America’s funniest actors. Joe Lo Truglio (Brooklyn Nine-Nine), Martin Starr (Silicon Valley), and Ken Jeong (Community) are among the talented players in this entertaining spoof.

7th June

Endangered Species (2021)

Wilderness parks are great fun…until a rhino tips your safari van over and leaves you stranded in the wilds with a whole host of dangerous animals! This is the plight that the protagonists of this movie find themselves in although despite the interesting premise, this isn’t that good a movie.

8th June

Hustle (2022)

Adam Sandler’s latest Netflix movie will hopefully have more in common with the brilliant Uncut Gems than the wretched comedies that the streaming giant paid out for. There are no reviews for this one yet but the trailer for this movie about a washed-up basketball scout who discovers a phenomenal streetball player while in Spain suggests this might be pretty good.

Keep Sweet Pray and Obey

If you’re looking for another true crime docuseries to add to your watchlist, this might be one for you. It delves into the backstory of Mormon prophet Warren Jeffs and the underage girls he married when he formed a radical religious sect that splintered off from the Mormon church.

Polygamy is a practice that is strictly forbidden in the church today which is partly why Jeff’s actions were so controversial. But the fact that some of his wives were minors is the most horrifying thing about the criminal case that the federal authorities carried out against him.

First Kill: Season 1

Falling in love can be tricky at the best of times but when your first love is a vampire and you’re a vampire hunter, it can be even trickier! That’s the premise of this new Netflix series but as there are no reviews for this at the time of writing, we don’t know if it’ll be a case of ‘love at first bite’ when we settle down to watch it, or whether we’ll be shouting “so long sucker” as we delete it from our watchlists.

15th June

God’s Favourite Idiot: Season 1

This high concept comedy about a tech support employee (Melissa McCarthy) who becomes the unwitting messenger of God certainly sounds promising enough. But as it was created by Ben Falcone who directed some of McCarthy’s worst movies, including Thunder Force and Superintelligence, there is the chance that this could be awful. We’ll find out whether or not this is the answer to our prayers when the series arrives on the streaming platform.

The Wrath of God (2022)

In this Argentinian thriller, a young woman begins to suspect that her former boss is responsible for a series of deaths that have been happening within her family. Is he guilty? We have no idea but if you’re in the mood for a twisty turny murder mystery, you might want to give this a try when it’s released this June.

Midnight In the Switchgrass (2021)

Bruce Willis, Megan Fox, and Emile Hirsch are the stars of this crime thriller that has not fared well with critics. It tells the story of an FBI agent and Florida State officer who team up to investigate a string of unsolved murder cases.

According to reviews, it’s cliched and indistinguishable from the other B-movies that director Randell Emmett produced before he made his directorial debut with this one. As such, this is probably one to miss although it’s not all bad apparently, as Lukas Haas (Witness) has received some commendation for his role in this lacklustre movie.

Heart Parade (2022)

To save her job, a career-minded woman with a fear of dogs travels to Warsaw. While there, she meets a charming widower, his son, and…surprise surprise…his four-legged pooch! Will the dog drive her away from the man of her dreams? Probably not but you can find out for yourself when this Polish movie hits Netflix.

17th June

Spiderhead (2022)

Chris Hemsworth stars in this futuristic crime thriller as the visionary head of a prison who experiments on his unfortunate prisoners with mind-altering drugs.

One of his subjects, Jeff (Miles Teller), starts to question the purposes of the drugs he has been taking when he forms a connection with Lizzy (Jurnee Smollett), another inmate. The movie sounds intriguing and with its good cast and director (Joseph Kosinski), hopes are high that this will be one trip worth taking.

20th June

The Craft Legacy (2020)

This belated sequel to The Craft isn’t awful but as it tells a similar story of four high school students who start to dabble in witchcraft, it is rather pointless.

The cast, including David Duchovny, Michelle Monaghan, and Fairuza Balk (from the first movie), is a good one but with average plotting, it is unlikely to cast a spell over you unless you’re a fan of the movie that preceded it.

22nd June

Love & Gelato (2022)

To fulfil her mother’s dying wish, Lina spends the summer before college in Tuscany, where she discovers romance, long-hidden family secrets, and a passion for gelato! Bellissimo!! The movie is based on the popular novel by Jenna Evans Welch so if you’re a fan of her work or simply just a fan of breezy summer romances in general, you might like this one.

The Umbrella Academy: Season 3

It’s the Umbrella Academy vs the Sparrow Academy in this third season so the superhero siblings have more to deal with than family bickering and another potential end of the world scenario.

Series creator Steve Blackman has promised that this will be “wilder, bigger, and zanier” than ever before and there are rumours that one of the main protagonists could be meeting an untimely end. Fans of the show have been desperately waiting for this one (the show’s return, not a character’s death) so it’s good that there isn’t long now before the Hargreeves clan makes their return.

24th June

Man Vs Bee: Season 1

According to the synopsis, a man finds himself at war with a bee while housesitting a luxurious mansion. The fact that the former Mr. Bean, Rowan Atkinson, is playing the man in question means this should be a comedy series that is well worth watching. The trailer recently dropped for this new comedy and you can check it out here!
