Movies And Shows Coming To Netflix UK In January 2023

There are lots of new shows to binge this month, including the new supernatural series Lockwood & Co, the comedy reboot That 90s Show, and the heist drama Kaleidoscope. There are some promising new movies on the way too, such as the Christian Bale-starring The Pale Blue Eyes and the Eddie Murphy/Jonah Hill comedy You People.

1st January

Lady Voyeur: Season 1

In this steamy Brazilian drama, Miranda, a talented hacker with voyeuristic tendencies, keeps a watchful eye over her sex worker neighbour. But when this same neighbour makes a house call to Miranda with a simple request, the fate of this lady voyeur’s life is changed forever.

Kaleidoscope (Limited Series)

On the surface, this is yet another heist drama about a crew of masterful thieves who attempt to crack a seemingly uncrackable vault. But there’s a twist with this one as the episodes of this non-linear series can be watched in any order. This means viewers will have their own unique viewing experience as the order in which they watch the episodes will affect their viewpoint on the characters and events that shape the story. Giancarlo Esposito, Paz Vega, Rufus Sewell, Tati Gabrielle, Jai Courtenay, and Rosaline Elbay are among the cast of this intriguing new series.

4th January

The Lying Life Of Adults: Season 1

Based on the novel by Elena Ferrante (The Lost Daughter), this coming-of-age drama set in 1990s Naples focuses on teenage girl Giovanna who navigates both the upper and lower echelons of Naples with the help of her mysterious Aunt Vittoria.

The Kings Of The World (2022)

In this Columbian drama, five street boys from Medellin set out on a perilous journey to recover a piece of land that was bequeathed to one of them.

Madoff: The Monster of Wall Street (Limited Series)

This new docuseries chronicles the rise and fall of Bernie Madoff, the American fraudster who orchestrated one of the biggest Ponzi schemes in the history of Wall Street. The series includes interviews with those directly involved in the $64 billion fraud as well as previously unseen footage of Madoff as he unscrupulously climbed the financial ladder.

5th January

Copenhagen Cowboy: Season 1

This Scandinavian crime noir series from Drive director Nicolas Winding Refn follows enigmatic young heroine Miu as she embarks on a quest for vengeance against her nemesis around the seedy world of Copenhagen’s criminal underground. As she has supernatural abilities, this is a little different to similar revenge tales so you shouldn’t expect a retread of movies or shows you have seen before.

Woman Of The Dead: Season 1

In this Austrian-German adaptation of the novel by Bernhard Aichner, Anna Maria Mühe stars as Brunhilde Blum, the owner of a funeral home at a popular ski resort, who sets out on a quest for revenge after her husband is murdered.

6th January

The Pale Blue Eye (2022)

Scott Cooper (Hostiles) directs this period mystery which is centred around the murder of a young military cadet at West Point Academy in 1830. Seasoned detective Augustus Landor (Christian Bale) is called upon to investigate the case and he recruits a cadet from the academy to help him – none other than writer-to-be Edgar Allan Poe (Harry Melling)!

13th January

Dog Gone (2023)

Rob Lowe and Johhny Berchtold star as a father and son who are forced to hike the Appalachian Trail together when their beloved pet pooch goes missing. As they search the wilderness for their four-legged friend, the two manage to mend their fractured relationship. Stephen Herek (The Mighty Ducks) directs this emotional movie which is based on a true story.

16th January

Bank Of Dave (2023)

A strong British cast, including Joel Fry, Paul Kaye, and Hugh Bonneville, star in this biographical comedy about working-class Burnley man and self-made millionaire Dave Fishwick who set up his own bank for the good of his local community.

19th January

That 90s Show: Season 1

Fans of The 70s Show will want to tune into this follow-up series that features some of the same cast and locales from that earlier show. This one centres on Leia Forman (Callie Haverda), the teenage daughter of Eric Forman (Topher Grace) and Donna Pinciotti (Laura Prepon), and the bonds she forms with other teenagers as she spends the summer of 1995 with her grandparents, Red (Kurtwood Smith) and Kitty (Debra Jo Rupp) in Point Place, Wisconsin.

Junji Ito Maniac: Japanese Tales Of The Macabre: Season 1

From the mind of horror manga maestro Junji Ito comes this animated collection of some of his most disturbing and terrifying tales. Titles include ‘The Long Hair in the Attic,’ ‘Tomb Town,’ and ‘The Thing That Drifted Ashore.’

20th January

Jung_E (2023)

From Sang-ho Yeon, the director of Train to Busan and Peninsula, comes this dystopian sci-fi thriller about a researcher at an AI lab who clones the brain of her heroic late mother to create a mercenary that could aid in a battle that is taking place on post-apocalyptic Earth.

27th January

You People (2023)

It’s Jonah Hill vs Eddie Murphy in this new rom-com about an LA millennial who has to face the ultimate relationship test: meeting his girlfriend’s parents!

Lockwood & Co: Season 1

Three teenage ghost hunters with psychic powers discover a terrifying new supernatural threat that could change the world forever!  Ali Hadji-Heshmati, Cameron Chapman, and Ruby Stokes are the young protagonists in this adaption of the first of Jonathan Stroud’s YA book series.

The Snow Girl: Season 1

Based on the novel of the same name, this Spanish mystery series centres on a trainee journalist who becomes determined to find a girl who went missing during the Three Wise Men parade in Malaga in 2010.

31st January

Pamela: A Love Story

Ryan White (Good Night Oppy) is the man behind this documentary that paints an intimate and humanising portrait of pop culture icon and Baywatch star, Pamela Anderson. Through the use of never-before-seen archival footage and Anderson’s personal journals, we get to learn more about her life and her journey from small beginnings to Hollywood stardom.
