Movies And Shows Coming To Hulu In April 2023

There is much to look forward to for Hulu subscribers this month, including the Tupac Shakur documentary Dear Mama, the outlandishly surreal movie Flux Gourmet, and Italian crime series The Good Mothers, which is based on a shocking true story.

3rd April

Pretty Baby: Brooke Shields

This two-part documentary explores the life of Brooke Shields, the actress who first came to prominence when she starred in Louis Malle’s controversial movie, Pretty Baby, at the age of 12. The actress reflects on her experiences in Hollywood, her complex relationship with her mother and manager, Teri Shields, and her own struggles with motherhood.

5th April

The Good Mothers (Limited Series)

Based on a shocking true story, this new series retraces the story of Denise Garofalo, Maria Concetta Cacciola and Giuseppina Pesce, three mothers born into the deadliest of the Italian Mafia clans who tried to bring down this criminal empire with the help of a courageous female prosecutor.

The Pope Answers

Jorge Mario Bergoglio, the current head of the Catholic church, meets with ten Spanish-speaking young adults who raise questions and concerns on a wide range of topics, including the role of women in the church, reproductive rights, LGBTQIA+ rights, the migrant crisis, racism, and mental health.

Reginald the Vampire: Season 1

Jacob Batalan (Ned from the Spider-Man movies) is Reginald, a young man who discovers the undead life is just as complicated as the rest of his life when he is turned into a vampire. A second season of the show, which is based on the Fat Vampire novels penned by Johnny B, was given the green light earlier this year.

7th April

Tiny Beautiful Things (Limited Series)

Katherine Hahn stars as a woman who reluctantly becomes an advice columnist while her own life is falling apart. When we first meet this struggling writer, her marriage is crumbling and her daughter will barely speak to her. When she is asked to take on the role of anonymous columnist ‘Dear Sugar,’ she doesn’t think she is in the best position to give anybody advice but through this new job, she is able to form a salve for others and her own unhealed wounds.

The New York Times Presents: The Legacy of J Dilla

Music producer and rapper James Dewitt Yancey, better known by the stage names J Dilla and Jay Dee, passed away at his home in 2006, 3 days after his 32nd birthday. This new documentary explores the life of this creative powerhouse and contains interviews with the late singer’s family.

The Honeymoon (2022)

When Adam (Pico Alexander) and Sarah (Maria Bakalova) embark on their honeymoon in Venice, their romantic getaway is sabotaged by Adam’s best friend, Ed (Asim Choudry), who can’t bear to be separated from his buddy.  This occasionally amusing comedy would have been funnier if it had a less predictable script.

Medieval (2022)

This gory historical drama tells the story of iconic 14th-century general Jan Zizka (Ben Foster) who fought against armies of the Teutonic Order and the Holy Roman Empire with his rebel army. Michael Caine and Sophie Lowe are among the cast of this occasionally exciting but muddled movie.

11th April

Am I Being Unreasonable?: Season 1

Nic (Daisy May Cooper) is grieving a loss that she can’t share with anyone and is stuck in a depressing marriage. Her son, Ollie (Lenny Rush) is the only bright spot in her life but when she meets Jen (Selin Hizli) at the gates of her son’s school, her life starts to improve as she forms a friendship with this kindred soul. Unfortunately, both ladies have dark secrets which threaten to upend the bond they have made. 6-part comedy thriller.

13th April

Door Mouse (2022)

When young women start disappearing from a burlesque club, one of the dancers, Mouse (Hayley Law), enlists the help of a colleague to investigate these disappearances when the club’s owner (Famke Janssen) and the local police fail to take the matter seriously.

Flux Gourmet (2022)

Peter Strickland (Berberian Sound Studio) directs this outlandishly surreal film about a trio of experimental performance artists who take up residency at the Sonic Catering Institute which is led by the narcissistic and controlling Elle (Fatma Mohamed). Asa Butterfield and Gwendoline Christie are among the cast of this funny but often grotesque tale.

14th April

The Offering (2023)

A Jewish family have to deal with a child-stealing demon in this entertaining and occasionally scary tale. Nick Blood (Rain Dogs) and Emily Wiseman (Saving Grace) star in this religious horror movie from actor-turned-director Oliver Park.

She Will (2021)

Fans of folk horror will want to tune into this strange horror movie that centers on an aging film star (Alice Krige) who receives frightening new abilities when she is touched by the power of dark magic while residing at a Scottish retreat.

19th April

Algiers America

This 5-part limited documentary series chronicles the journey of Coach Brice Brown and the Edna Karr Cougars,  a football team from a predominantly Black high school in Algiers, and their quest to win the fifth state championship in six years.

20th April

Quasi (2023)

The latest movie from the Broken Lizard team is a satirical take on the classic story of Quasimodo, the hunchback of Notre Dame.

Joyride (2022)

Road trip movie about a headstrong solicitor (Olivia Colman) who forms a bond with a teenager on the run (Charlie Reid), when the youngster steals a taxi that she is a passenger in.

21st April

Poker Face (2022)

A high-stakes poker game between friends turns into a life-and-death battle when an elaborate revenge plot starts to unfold. Russell Crowe, Liam Hemsworth and RZA are among the cast of this underwhelming thriller.

22nd April

Dear Mama

From director Allen Hughes (The Book Of Eli) comes this new docuseries that explores the legacy of late rapper Tupac Shakur and his indomitable mother, Afeni Shakur, who was part of the Black Panther movement.

Secrets Of The Elephants

This follow-up to Secrets Of The Whales takes us from the Savannahs of Africa to the urban landscapes of Asia as it reveals the extraordinary lives of different families of elephants. According to the official synopsis, this four-part series will “change everything you thought you knew about elephants forever.”

28th April

Clock (2023)

Dianna Agron (Shiva Baby) stars as Ella, a woman who enrolls in a clinical trial to fix her broken biological clock. Unbeknownst to her, there is something sinister about the clinic’s pioneering treatment. This psychological horror movie also stars Melora Hardin (The Office) and Saul Rubinek (Billions).
