Movies And TV Shows Coming To Disney+ UK In December 2022

It’s cold outside so rather than brave the chilly winter weather, why not stay indoors with a Disney+ subscription instead? There is much to look forward to this month, including the critically acclaimed movie The Banshees Of Inisherin, animated updates of Diary Of a Wimpy Kid and Night At the Museum, and the new National Treasure series.

There is all this and much more besides so check out the highlights below and keep scrolling for a look at the other titles that are coming to Disney+ in December.

Please note: This list is correct at the time of writing but more titles will likely be revealed over the coming days.

2nd December

Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Rodrick Rules (2022)

Fans of the live-action Diary Of A Wimpy Kid movies might want to tune into this animated feature film which is adapted from the same children’s book that inspired the 2011 Wimpy Kid movie. Once again, the focus is on Greg Hefney, the scrawny but ambitious kid who is doing his best to survive Middle School. His life is made more complicated by his brother Rodrick, with whom he is forced to spend time with at the behest of his parents.

Darby and the Dead (2022)

This new comedy movie focuses on Darby Harper, a teenager who, after suffering a near-death experience as a young girl, gained the ability to see dead people. In the years since she has spent more time counselling lonely spirits than reconnecting with her peers. But when one of the girls from her school unexpectedly dies in a freak hair-straightening accident, the ghost of the unfortunate teen gives Darby a mission that forces her to spend more time in the land of the living.

Our Only Chance: Season 1

This Spanish drama series follows the story of Candela and Diego, two young people struggling to make their way in the world. Candela dreams of being a singer while Diego is trying to make a living as a boxer. When their paths cross one night, they reconnect after years apart and experience a life-changing series of events as a consequence. Aitana, one of the most important pop artists in Spain right now, makes her acting debut as Candela.

Amsterdam (2022)

Acclaimed director David O’Russell’s latest movie has only just hit cinemas so it’s something of a surprise to see it streaming on Disney+ so soon. If you didn’t catch this epic crime drama on the big screen, you now have the opportunity to watch it at home. A large ensemble cast, including Christian Bale, Margot Robbie, and Anya Taylor-Joy star in this 1930s-set tale about 3 friends who find themselves involved in one of the most outrageous plots in American history. Despite the talents in front of and behind the camera, the movie failed to make an impact with many critics. You can check out our review here.

Connect: Series 1

Japanese director Takashi Miike has teamed up with Disney+ for this 6-part K-series about Ha Dong-soo, an immortal man who has his eye removed by a gang of organ harvesters after they kidnap him. His eye is then transplanted into the eye socket of a prolific serial killer and this causes him to experience visions of the horrific crimes carried out by the murderer. Determined to get back what was taken from him, Ha Dong-soo takes all steps necessary to track down the person behind the slayings. New episodes follow weekly.

9th December

Night at the Museum: Kahmunrah Rises Again (2022)

In this animated continuation of the Night at the Museum franchise, Nick Daley follows in his father’s footsteps as the night watchman at the American Museum of Natural History. All goes well until the nefarious Kahmunrah, the antagonist of the second film, returns on a mission of revenge after the sun goes down. None of the original cast seems to be involved in this latest instalment so expect to hear the voices of new actors taking on the roles of the museum’s returning characters.

14th December

The Muppet Christmas Carol – Extended Edition (1992)

You know it’s Christmas when you see the Muppets on screen bringing Charles Dickens’ classic tale to life. You will already know how this film plays out of course, but as it’s the extended edition, complete with the song “When Love is Gone” that was cut from the DVD release, you have extra reason to revisit this festive favourite.

National Treasure: Edge Of History: Series 1

This new series takes place in the same universe as the previous movies but if you’re hoping to see Nic Cage make a return as Benjamin Gates, you’re going to be disappointed. It might be that he turns up in future seasons if this first season is successful but he apparently isn’t in this one due to his busy schedule. A few familiar faces are due to pop up, however, including Justin Bartha who makes his franchise comeback as fan favourite character, Riley Poole. The main protagonist this time around is Jess Valenzuela (Lisette Olivera), who embarks on an adventure of a lifetime to save a lost Pan-American treasure while simultaneously trying to uncover the truth about her family’s past. New episodes follow weekly.

If These Walls Could Sing

This Disney Original Documentary gives us exclusive access to the most famous and longest-running studio in the world, Abbey Road Studios. Through exclusive interviews with Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr, Elton John, Kate Bush, and John Williams, among other famous musical celebs, we will get to hear the stories of some of the studio’s most iconic recordings from the people that made them happen.

21st December

The Banshees Of Inisherin (2022)

Writer-director Martin McDonagh, who previously worked with Brendan Gleeson and Colin Farrell on the sublime black comedy In Bruges, reteams with the two actors for this recent cinema release. The story is centred around Pádraic (Farrell) and Colm (Gleeson), two lifelong friends living on a remote island off the coast of Ireland, who find themselves at an impasse when one of them abruptly decides to end their friendship. This scored very highly with critics so is recommended if you haven’t yet had the opportunity to see this film.

Big Bet: Season 1

Veteran actor Choi Min-sik (Old Boy) stars in this new K-drama about a man who, after a chain of unfortunate events blight his life, struggles to achieve his dreams of becoming a casino mogul. The series will follow him as he risks everything he has, including his life, to get himself back on track. New episodes will follow weekly.

28th December

Encanto at the Hollywood Bowl

Warning: If your children have finally stopped singing about Bruno, you can expect to hear them give further renditions of that catchy (but possibly irritating song) if you let them watch this live-to-film concert experience that features an 80-person orchestra, a plethora of dancers, out-of-this-world special effects, and the original voice cast of the popular movie.
