Brand new Pixar movie Lightyear is heading to Disney+ this month and so too is Andor, the prequel series to Star Wars spinoff Rogue One. We also have Prey to look forward to, a prequel to the Predator movies, as well as She-Hulk who smashes her way onto the screen alongside her more famous cousin.

3rd August
Lightyear (2022)
Did we really need an origin story for Pixar’s Buzz Lightyear? I’m not so sure but despite my hesitation, this animated feature about the hero who inspired the legendary toy was mostly well-received by critics. At the time of writing, this is still playing in some cinemas so it’s a surprise that it has made its way onto the streaming service so quickly.
5th August
Prey (2022)
Set in the Comanche Nation 300 years ago, the movie tells the story of Naru, a highly skilled warrior who has to protect her tribe from the first alien predator to land on Earth. This prequel to the earlier movies in the Predator franchise is reportedly very good and better than the sequels that followed the original 1987 movie starring Arnold Schwarzenegger.
LEGO Star Wars: Summer Vacation
You aren’t the only one hoping for a much-needed break this Summer as Finn, Rey, Poe, Rose, Chewie, BB-8, R2-D2, and C-3PO are all hoping to get away from the stresses and strains of their various lives too. Unfortunately, their break is interrupted by the ghosts of Leia, Anakin and Obi-Wan who arrive to share stories of their own vacations. Here’s hoping your time away won’t be spoiled by tourists waxing lyrical about their past holidays!

I Am Groot
This series of five animated shorts focuses on Baby Groot and his various misadventures during his earlier years. This won’t be as exciting as the next Guardians Of The Galaxy movie but if you ever wanted to learn more about Groot’s roots, these shorts that branch off from the movie franchise is for you.
12th August
This Fool: Season 1
This comedy series is inspired by the life of its co-creator Chris Estrada and focuses on 30-year-old Julio Lopez, a man with a heart of gold who works at Hugs Not Thugs, a gang rehabilitation nonprofit in South Central Los Angeles. The trailer for this one is fairly amusing so this could be worth a look.
Once Upon A Time In America (1984)
Sergio Leone’s crime drama is epic in length as well as plotting but this is well worth a watch if you have the patience to make it through to the end. Robert De Niro stars as Noodles, a former gangster who returns to New York after a self-imposed exile to make amends for his past mistakes. He is joined in the cast by James Woods, Joe Pesci, and Elizabeth McGovern.
The King Of Comedy (1982)
We all have our favourite Martin Scorsese movie and if you were to ask for my personal choice, it would be this black comedy about Rupert Pupkin (Robert De Niro), a passionate yet unsuccessful comic who kidnaps talk show host Jerry Lanford (Jerry Lewis) after being refused a stand-up spot on his show. The film is a satire on the cult of celebrity and features stand-out turns from its two leads. If you have never seen this comedic masterpiece before, make the most of your opportunity while it is streaming.

She-Hulk: Attorney at Law: Season 1 – Episode 1
The latest Marvel series to land on Disney+ centres on 30-something attorney Jennifer Walters whose life is made complicated when she becomes the superpowered She-Hulk. If this follows the plotlines of the comics, her transformation will happen after her cousin Bruce Banner donates his blood to her after she is injured in an accident. Mark Ruffalo co-stars as Smart Hulk and Tim Roth returns to the MCU as Emil Blonsky/the Abomination.

Welcome To Wrexham: Season 1
Despite having no experience in football, actors Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney teamed up in 2020 to purchase the North Wales football club in an effort to turn its fortunes around. What happened next? All will be revealed in this documentary series.

Star Wars: Andor – Episodes 1 & 2
This prequel to the Star Wars spin-off film Rogue One follows thief-turned-spy Cassian Andor and the series of events that resulted in him joining the Rebel faction that battled against the tyrannical Empire. You will already know the end of his story if you have seen the 2016 film but as “many Bothans died” to inspire this prequel series, you should give it a go regardless, especially if you’re a fan of the franchise.
