Casa Grande – Limited series
This class-based drama series explores the conflicts between California’s migrant workforce and the landowners who reap the profits of their labour. John Pyper-Ferguson (The 100), Christina Moore (That ‘70s Show), Karen Bethzabe (Babylon), Madison Lawlor (Juniper), and James Marsters (Buffy The Vampire Slayer) are among the cast of this 5-part saga.
Taxi – Seasons 1-5
Every episode of the Emmy-winning sitcom is streaming on Freevee this May. If you have never seen this series, which follows the lives of a group of cabbies in New York, now is your opportunity to catch up with one of the best comedy shows ever made. Danny DeVito, Andy Kaufman, Christopher Lloyd, and Rhea Perlman are just a few of the big-name stars who made a name for themselves on this legendary American series.
Boogie (2021)
Fresh Off The Boat creator Eddie Huang makes his movie directorial debut with this insightful basketball drama about a young Chinese-American man who has to defy cultural expectations when pursuing his dreams of becoming an NBA player. The movie doesn’t quite achieve a slam-dunk due to the occasional lack of polish but it still tells a compelling story that will particularly resonate with those who can relate to the struggles faced by the young protagonist.
Stan & Ollie (2018)
Stan Laurel and Oliver Hardy were two of the finest comedy actors of their generation. This movie, which stars Steve Coogan and John C Reilly as the bowler-hatted pair, is a bittersweet look at the world-famous comedy duo as they embarked on their last-ever theatre tour. Coogan and Reilly both give brilliant performances and the movie, as a whole, is very good. However, some liberties have been taken with the truth, so this isn’t altogether faithful to the true story of the final days of Laurel and Hardy’s career.
Where’d You Go, Bernadette? (2019)
Richard Linklater directs this amusing comedy about a loving mom named Bernadette Fox (Cate Blanchett) who goes missing prior to a family trip to Antarctica. Where did she go? Her husband Elgie (Billy Crudup) and precocious teen daughter (Emma Nelson) are determined to find out the answer.
