Video Game Release Dates: The Latest Games Coming to PC and Consoles in October 2023

October is jam-packed with big game releases, with Spider-Man 2 swinging its way onto the PS5 this month and Alan Wake 2 landing just in time for the Halloween season. One notable omission from the gaming calendar, however, is Afraid Of The Dark, which has now shifted from its October release date to January 2024.

October 4

Warhammer 40,000 Darkside

Platforms: Xbox Series X/S

Take back the city of Tertium from hordes of bloodthirsty foes in this intense and brutal 4-player co-op shooter.

It’s up to you and your allies in the Inquisition to defeat this mysterious and sinister new force before the city succumbs to chaos.  Choose your class to determine which unique traits and skill sets you will make use of in battle. Will you be a magic-wielding Psyker, a veteran Sharpshooter, a tanky Ogryn, or an aggressive Zealot? The choice is yours!


October 5

Assassin’s Creed Mirage

Platforms: PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S

In this latest game in the Assassin’s Creed franchise, set in Baghdad in the 9th Century, you take control of Basim, a cunning street thief seeking answers and justice.

Basim will join an ancient organization, come to understand a new creed, and transform from a derelict young man to a refined Master Assassin with a conflicted destiny. 


October 6

Detective Pikachu Returns

Platforms: Switch

Detective Pikachu is back on the case! In this new adventure for the cuddly Pokemon, you will join the detective and his cohort Tim, to help them solve a series of curious incidents that are occurring in Ryme City.

During your investigations, you will visit a swanky manor, ancient ruins, the Hi-Hat Cafe, and a variety of other picturesque locations.


October 10

Forza Motorsport

Platforms: PC, Xbox Series X/S

The 8th game in the Forza Motorsport franchise is a reboot in the long-running racing series, with better physics, stunning graphics, and at least 20 tracks, 5 of which have never been seen in a Forza game.

Each circuit has multiple layouts, with fully dynamic time-of-day weather systems, live crowds, and temperature changes that will have an impact on your driving. 


October 13

Lords Of The Fallen

Platforms: PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S

This successor to the 2014 game of the same name acts as both a reboot and a sequel. The story is set over 1,000 years after the first title and follows on from one of that game’s three endings.

In this Souls-like fantasy epic, you will travel through the dark land of Mournstead on a Holy Quest to restore radiance to the Six Beacons of the Sentinels. During your adventure, you will journey between two realms – Axiom, the world of the living, and Umbral, the realm of the dead – and battle the game’s enemies and big bosses either alone or cooperatively with another player. 


October 17

Sonic Superstars

Platforms: PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, Switch

Adventure through the mystical Northstar Islands in this all-new take on classic 2D Sonic high-speed action platforming. Take control of Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, or Amy Rose, and navigate through gorgeous, never-before-seen environments solo or with up to 3 other players.

With fully 3D graphics, new settings, and a range of new powers and abilities, this Sonic title should be quite unlike any you have played before. 


October 20

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2

Platforms: PS5

Take control of both Peter Parker and Miles Morales in this new edition to Marvel’s Spider-Man franchise. In the game, you will battle a number of well-known enemies, including the monstrous Venom, the volatile Lizard, the ruthless Kraven the Hunter, and many more.

With a larger map to explore, a new evolution of the Spider-Man story to experience, and some exciting new powers at your disposal, this upcoming title is sure to be a big hit with fans of the friendly neighbourhood wall-crawler. 

Super Mario Bros. Wonder

Platforms: Switch

This upcoming side-scrolling platformer is the first fully-fledged 2D Mario title in 11 years. Play as Mario, Luigi, Princess Peach, Princess Daisy, Yellow Toad, Yoshi, and a number of other classic Nintendo characters, and use their respective movesets to navigate through the game’s bright and colourful environments.

Locations include Fluff-Puff Peaks, a bright pink collection of clouds atop an icy mountain top, Pipe-Rock Plateau, a rocky landscape of mountainous plateaus that resemble warp pipes, and Shining Falls, a metallic, golden landscape comprised of large oblongs and octahedrons.


October 24

The Lord of the Rings: Return to Moria

Platforms: PC, PS5

After the disastrous Lord Of The Rings: Gollum, fans of Tolkien’s fantasy world are hoping this latest title set in Middle Earth is better than that broken and tedious misfire. 

In this survival crafting game, you will follow the Dwarves as they embark on a new adventure to reclaim their legendary home of Moria below the Misty Mountains. Join forces with other players to survive, craft, build, and explore the sprawling mines where all kinds of dangers await. 


October 26

Ghostrunner 2

Platforms: PC, PS5, Xbox Series X/S

Set one year after the events of the brutally difficult first game, this title puts you in the role of Jack who is back to take on the violent AI cult that has assembled outside Dharma Tower. 

In this game, you will experience a deeper exploration of the game’s world, a set of new skills, some exciting new game modes, and complex motorbike sections that provide a different way to navigate the cyberpunk environments. 


October 27

Alan Wake 2

Platforms: PC, PS5, Xbox Series X/S

While searching the town of Bright Falls for his missing wife in the original game, best-selling novelist Alan Wake ended up a prisoner in the Dark Place where his nightmares, fears, and stories manifested as reality around him. 

This sequel takes place 13 years after the events of the first game, with a focus on Alan Wake and a brand new character, FBI Agent Saga Anderson, who finds herself tangled up in a supernatural horror story that the titular author has written as a means of escaping from captivity.
