Namib – K-drama Episode 10 Recap & Review

Episode 10

Episode 10 of Namib picks up where the previous episode left off, with Soo-hyun in the hospital after the accident. Yoo Jin-woo’s manager takes him there, frustrated with Jin-woo, blaming him for causing more problems.

Meanwhile, Jun-seok returns home to collect Soo-hyun’s belongings and discovers her psychiatric diagnosis, which reveals she suffers from anxiety, depression, and insomnia. He also finds her hidden sleeping pills. They attend to Soo-hyun at the hospital and lie to her, telling her that Jin-woo is doing well.

In the middle of the night, Soo-hyun sneaks out of the hospital to visit Jin-woo at his dorm. Jin-woo asks if she plans to sell the factory and take him back, but when Soo-hyun denies this, he walks away.

After the incident, Jin-woo becomes an outcast, viewed as an attention-seeker by his teammates and company officials. The company has completely lost interest in him. Meanwhile, Hyun-cheol seeks out Ha-na, who collapses from exhaustion.

At school, Shim Jin-woo discovers that it was his bullies who started the rumors about Jin-woo being a bully. He informs Soo-hyun but gets frustrated with his mother for justifying the decision to sell the factory, despite selling out his friend.

At the company, Jin-woo decides to take responsibility for his actions and agrees to pay the penalty for his breach of contract. To make ends meet, he begins working as a delivery person. Meanwhile, Shim Jin-woo struggles with the guilt of not being able to protect Yoo Jin-woo when he needed him the most. Soo-hyun also feels guilty about selling Jin-woo out.

Jun-seok then decides to send Soo-hyun on a trip to help her clear her mind. Meanwhile, Hyun-cheol plans to make Jin-woo an internet livestream personality, forcing him to entertain viewers for money as a way to break him as Soo-hyun’s creation.

Later, after Soo-hyun leaves for the airport, Jun-seok meets his mother-in-law, who reminisces about the first time she met him as Soo-hyun’s fiancé. She reminds Jun-seok that Soo-hyun’s dream was always to meet “the best kid” in her lifetime as a producer. Realizing this, Jun-seok rushes to the airport to find Soo-hyun.

At the airport, Jun-seok confronts Soo-hyun, asking what Jin-woo would have meant to her if Shin Jin-woo’s accident hadn’t happened. It is then that Soo-hyun realizes that Jin-woo is the “best kid” she’s always dreamed of.

In the final moments, Soo-hyun arrives at Jin-woo’s press conference, where his company forces him to accept all the accusations. She publicly denies the accusations on his behalf and takes him away. The episode ends with Hyun-cheol meeting them outside the press conference room and telling Jin-woo to come with him.

The Episode Review

In this episode, Namib seems to be running out of steam, as the plot feels stretched thin. It’s apparent that the final episodes will likely reflect the challenges highlighted in this episode. Adding on, while the show attempts to address mental health issues in the entertainment industry, it suffers from the usual shortcomings of K-dramas, where such topics are often treated trivially, used only as plot devices that arise at convenient moments.

With each passing episode, Namib feels more mediocre than when it first began, and there is uncertainty about how the show will wrap up in the upcoming finale next week.
