Despite Appearances, I’m More the Big Sister Type
In episode 2 of My Tiny Senpai, Akina runs into Shinozaki and Shiori during a questionable situation after Shiori drops his pen. As a consequence, Akina feels compelled to act as a matchmaker because he begins to see Shinozaki and Shiori as potential partners. He assigns them to find a new restaurant for some business meals. They both agree as they wouldn’t turn down a free dinner.
Soon after work, Akina pursues them and meets Hayakawa, a childhood friend of Shinozaki. He assumes that she is following Shinozaki as they were friends and she likes him, but Hayakawa strongly denies this. After a while, the two start to walk after the couple together.
We discover that Akina got a couple’s table for the two of them at the restaurant where they are dining. Hayakawa wonders why he is exerting himself so much for this. Akina claims to enjoy watching couples come together.
During a brief antic, Shiori leans against Shinozaki to get a better view, making him shaky. When it gets late, Shinozaki jokingly admits that he is disappointed since he had hoped to spend a little more time with Shiori. Shinozaki is perplexed as Shiori deeply blushes after giving this remark some thought. In any case, he offers to accompany her to the train station.
The following day, Hayakawa comes across Shinozaki and notices that he is carrying an umbrella. We discover that he brought the umbrella because he had been informed that the item was his lucky object. Shiori finds herself without an umbrella as it unexpectedly starts to rain. Unsurprisingly, Shinozaki proposes to share the umbrella with her.
He attempts to talk to her on the way home given that he finds silence uncomfortable. Shiori tells him that he needn’t push himself to talk because she finds silence to be soothing. She suddenly informs him that she would like to stop at the bookstore on the way home so they can meet up later. He offers to give her the umbrella for the trip home, but Shiori says she has one inside her bag. As a consequence, Shinozaki feels incredibly embarrassed.
Shiori is somewhat concerned when Shinozaki calls in sick the following morning. Soon after work, she pays him a visit and offers to make him a meal. Shinozaki welcomes her into his home, where they share a meal.
In order to decide what gift to give Shiori in appreciation for her generosity while he was ill, Shinozaki turns to Hayakawa. Hayakawa suggests that he get her an apron, something cute she can put on that will make her think of him. Though he fears it could be too intimate, he still buys it.
Shiori becomes overjoyed as he approaches her with the package and inquires as to whether this means she can visit his home once more. Their boss Akina questions them regarding taking a day off to enjoy time together. Thereafter, they both jokingly yell at him to slow down.
The Episode Review
The second episode of My Tiny Senpai is much more entertaining than the initial one. The events are connected chronologically, which makes the flow appear natural. The umbrella caused Shinozaki to become ill, which brought about a subsequent home-cooking date.
The anime benefits from the expansion of the cast of characters. It is also refreshing to see more of Akina as well as Hayakawa in this episode.
