A Thousand Times, and a Man of Destiny
Episode 5 of My Man is Cupid starts with Baek-ryeon preparing for her hike to the mountain. Her colleague tells her to be careful, teasing her that she’ll live for 100 years for hiking too much.
Before leaving, she sees the flowered umbrella and returns it to one of her receptionists. While on the mountain, she asks the deity for forgiveness and shows the photo of the man she wants to avoid confusion.
On the other hand, Sang-hyuk sends her a photo of a man he thinks is ideal for her. She gets upset because she’s secretly in love with him. She rejects his choice and says she will always reject any option he gives her.
Sang-hyuk is frustrated and thinks Baek-ryeon’s standards are too high, not knowing he’s her ideal man.
While relaxing at home with other cupids, Sang-hyuk sees In-sung on television and learns that he is single and a good man. In that case, he wants him to show compassion to a pitiful soul.
Meanwhile, the scene replays when Jae-hee went looking for the woman they had interrogated, only to find her dead. On the other hand, the other detectives are waiting outside, and Jae-hee alerts them about Myeong-sik, asking them to return to the office.
Once she arrives from the mountain, Baek-ryeon is shocked to see their building buzzing with police. The National Forensic Service experts are at the murder scene collecting any evidence that could help resolve the murder case. Jae-hee is determined that he will identify the killer.
While at the office, he claims that one of the seniors from a higher rank is aiding the culprit to evade the sword of justice. Unfortunately, they must revise the footage to help apprehend the killer.
Meanwhile, the cupids are having a meal at home, and they feel Sang-Hyuk changed the hospital to see the pretty vet. He is reminded why they are here and should stick to the plan.
When he is told to stop dragging Ddaeng-chil to the clinic since he’s not sick, Sang-hyuk says that Ddaeng-chil is obese. The news pops up with the story of a murdered woman. All the interrogated witnesses ended up dying mysteriously.
This invokes Sang-hyuk to research more about the case, and says he has a bad feeling about it. All witnesses are dead, meaning there will be no evidence to incriminate the culprit. He feels that the deity might be helping him escape.
On the other hand, Baek-ryeon only has two hikes to the mountain, and a man will appear. However, she recalls that the tarot reader told her that a man who knows her past will appear, meaning it’s not about the man who will be in life. Meanwhile, Dong-gu pays for a love course, which is quite expensive.
Sang-hyuk starts following the case, and he first approaches Eun-seo’s sister. She claims her sister had an affair, but she didn’t deserve to die. Apparently, this could have been a crime of passion. There is also a red notebook that they need to find.
Sang-hyuk goes to the police station to talk with the lead detective. Surprisingly, he meets Detective Jae-hee and recalls him from the pet clinic. He says all the cases of women who have been killed since 1993 could be related. The killer gave each woman a red notebook before killing them.
Three more notebooks remain, and Sang-hyuk advices Jae-hee to stop looking for witnesses. He should focus on finding the culprit. However, the detective wonders how Sang-hyuk got to know all these things and even has photos that detectives don’t have. He questions him about knowing what happened in 1993, yet he was born in 1994.
Meanwhile, Baek-ryeon is on her 999th hike and asks the deity to connect her to Sang-hyuk. Unfortunately, she forgets the photo at the cliff and has to get it.
When she gets there, she meets Sang-hyuk, who says he goes there too because he likes the view. Baek-ryeon says she had forgotten something, but the real one is there, meaning Sang-hyuk’s presence. He drops her home, but Baek-ryeon confesses her love to him before he leaves. She tells him that he is the ideal man for her.
Conversely, Sang-hyuk says he only feels pity for her. This breaks her, and that night, she cries her heart out. She remembers all the incidences when Sang-hyuk saved her, thinking he liked her, only to say he feels sorry for her.
On the other hand, Sang-hyuk is having a troubled night, and he remembers the woman he loved. If he had been there for her, she probably couldn’t have been killed. In the meantime, Baek-ryeon feels that Sang-hyuk lied to her. His eyes could tell that his harsh words were pure lies, and she believed in what she saw rather than what she heard. As she leaves the house, someone follows her to the bus.
Elsewhere, Jae-hee recalls what Sang-hyuk told him about the killer. He receives a call informing him that the call came from a building where Myeong-sik works. Jae-hee goes to check on Alexandra, but before he leaves, it starts raining.
The staff ask the receptionist to give him an umbrella, a floral one they have been looking at all this while. She says that she had given it to Baek-ryeon on that snowfall day. It immediately clicks on him that the culprit kills witnesses, and he orders his colleagues to check on Myeong-sik, whom they don’t find in his office.
Coincidentally, Sang-hyuk goes to the clinic to check on Baek-ryeon, only to find he is off-day. He overhears the staff saying that she’s a witness to the witness, and he has to act quickly. He goes to the mountain, but upon reaching the cliff, he finds the deity. He reminds Sang-hyuk of his warning about opening his heart to any woman.
According to the deity, fairies cannot mingle with humans. Sang-hyuk says that he will kill the deity, but he ends up getting hurt and thrown down the cliff.
In the meantime, Baek-ryeon is about to fall off the cliff, but Jae-hee saves her. On the other hand, Sang-hyuk reports about the missing lady, not knowing that Jae-hee saved her. She also recalls seeing a black man grabbing Eun-seo that evening.
The chief detective is shocked to find Sang-hyuk in the police station. Him calling Sang-hyuk “Sir” raises an eyebrow among the staff, wondering how an older person calls a young man sir.
As the episode concludes, Sang-hyuk warns Jae-hee to bring a witness there. Since they cannot agree on who will take Baek-ryeon home, they tell her to choose.
