My Love Mix-Up! (Thai) – Season 1 Episode 12 Recap, Review & Ending Explained

Episode 12

Episode 12 of My Love Mix-Up begins with Atom and Kongthap going to a shrine to pray that Atom passes his university exam. Kongthap then reveals that he has something to say to Atom. He says he found a dorm room for two people near the university and asks Atom if he’ll stay with him. Atom says yes.

The exam day arrives. Afterwards, everyone but Atom seems fairly confident about their exam. Half and Mudmee go off to have lunch with Mudmee’s parents. When Atom says he wants their parents to know about their relationship as well, Kongthap invites him for lunch with his mother on the weekend.

Mudmee and Half are waiting for her father when Half suddenly gets a text and runs off. Later, Mudmee’s friends are sure that he’s cheating on her. Mudmee’s suspicions grow worse when they see Half get into a car with a woman.

Mudmee confronts him but realises that the woman is a driving instructor and Half is learning how to drive. He meant to surprise Mudmee with his driving skills, as he would be able to drive and see her all the more when they go to university.

Does Kongthap’s mother accept Atom?

At home, Atom practices talking to Momman, before meeting Kongthap’s mother. He’s anxious about it, which becomes worse when he spills a drink on his shirt. Kongthap gives him a new shirt and they go downstairs to eat.

They sit down at the table with Kongthap’s mother and she asks Atom if Kongthap is dating someone. She’s worried that someone will take advantage of Kongthap’s good nature. Atom lies and says he doesn’t know who Kongthap is dating. His mother says she’d want him to date someone smart and competent, just like him.

Atom looks a bit disheartened. At the end of the day, Kongthap tries to comfort Atom but the latter says that smart and competent don’t describe him at all.

Back home, Atom washes Kongthap’s sweatshirt in the washing machine, which ruins the embroidery Kongthap’s mother had done on it. Atom begs his mother to return the sweatshirt since Kongthap’s mother already has a low opinion of him. She admonishes him and tells him to have the courage to own his mistakes.

Does Atom tell Kongthap’s mother the truth about the sweatshirt?

It’s graduation day now and Atom and Kongthap’s mothers have a chance to meet. The four of them even take a picture together. As Atom is about to apologise to Kongthap’s mother, he’s stopped when she praises Mudmee for getting into med school. Atom’s mother encourages him again and he takes the sweatshirt and runs off.

He manages to catch up to them and tells Kongthap’s mother the whole story, apologising profusely. He then says that one day, he’ll become smarter and asks if she’ll let him take care of Kongthap then. Kongthap’s mother reiterates that she wants the best for her only son and Atom, saying he’ll do his best, asks her to not stop them from seeing each other.

Kongthap’s mother takes Atom’s hand and admits that at first, she didn’t think they were a good match, but she changed her mind after hearing all the ways Atom helped Kongthap. She knows Atom is very competent and asks him to take care of Kongthap from now onwards. Both the boys thank her and Kongthap gives teary-eyed Atom a hug.

What happens to Mudmee and Half?

Now that Half knows how to drive, he takes Mudmee out on a date to various parts of the city. They go roller skating and even go to the hilltop where Atom and Kongthap had gone before. They’re about to go see the sunset when Half’s car doesn’t start up.

Half wants to make sure they have a day full of good memories before they part and insists on pushing the car to the sunset point. Mudmee joins him and they create a good memory together. When they reach, Half apologises again. Mudmee assures him it’s okay and then leans in to kiss his cheek.

Does Atom get into the same university as Kongthap?

It’s the day of the exam results now and all the four friends have gathered at Atom’s house. Atom himself is very nervous. The results come out and Mudmee, Kongthap and Half all get accepted into their schools. Instead of checking his result, Atom hides under a blanket and complains that he can’t be the only one left behind.

Kongthap joins him under the blanket and tells him that they won’t leave him behind even if he fails. Atom checks the result and finds that he got accepted! All four friends hug Atom and jump around to celebrate.

Does Atom tell his mother about him and Kongthap?

Later, Half and Mudmee leave to go home. Atom tells Kongthap that there’s one last thing. He wants to tell his mother about them before he leaves for Bangkok. Just then, his mother arrives. Atom tries to say it but isn’t able to. Kongthap then says that Atom wants to tell her something.

Atom holds Kongthap’s hand and finally tells his mother. She tears up and says she thought he would never say it. He admits being afraid that she’d be upset and wouldn’t accept him. She hugs him and tells him that his happiness is her happiness.

In school, Annop congratulates Atom on his success. He also gives Atom an invitation to his and Sin’s wedding. On the basketball court, Kongthap’s team gives a tearful goodbye to their jerseys. We learn that Khaopan is dating someone as well.

How does My Love Mix-Up end?

The scene shifts to somewhere outdoors where the entire school year is putting objects in a time capsule. Atom is putting his eraser which has Kongthap’s name on it. Half and Mudmee put their exam cards. And Kongthap is putting Atom’s terrible sketch of Kongthap’s face. When Atom laments not seeing the eraser for ten years, Mudmee tells her to bury her eraser instead. After all, that’s the one that brought him and Kongthap together. Atom agreed.

Atom is taking a look at the empty classroom when Kongthap joins him. They reminisce about their different seating arrangements through the years and how they got closer to each other over time. As a voiceover from Atom talks about the power of the eraser, we see a montage of moments from the whole season. In the final moment of My Love Mix-Up Episode 12, Kongthap and Atom kiss again.

The Episode Review

My Love Mix-Up ends on a note as sweet and wholesome as the rest of its story. All the loose ends are tied with our favourite older gays Annop and Sin also getting to tie the knot. Atom and Kongthap are able to open up to their parents about their relationship.

Atom’s insecurities about not being good enough are handled well, it was lovely watching Kongthap’s mother make him see otherwise. The coming-out scene with Atom’s mother is even more heartwarming and Fourth, of course, does such a good job as teary-eyed Atom.

Although, it did seem unfair that Atom got the spotlight in both scenarios. Kongthap, during both scenes, was mostly standing off to the side and he deserves more than that! Half and Mudmee enjoy their last few days together and it’s a light, fun watch for the most part.

The bit about Mudmee suspecting him of cheating didn’t sit right with the rest of it though, it highlights how the writing of this show can sometimes veer towards flippant even when it comes to sensitive subjects. That said, it was a delightful episode all in all and the time capsule made for a sufficiently emotional send-off to these wholesome characters!
