My Love Mix-Up! (Thai) – Season 1 Episode 10 Recap & Review

Episode 10 Recap – Long Distance Relationships

The Episode 10 recap of My Love Mix-Up begins with the core foursome discussing open-house visits to universities. Atom realises that Kongthap is considering universities in Bangkok. He’s going to visit one and asks Atom to come along but Atom says his grades aren’t high enough for him to consider this one. Kongthap seems a bit upset because of this.

Later, Kongthap talks to Khaopan who helps him figure out what made Kongthap upset. Khaopan advises him to talk to Atom. At home, Kongthap’s mother asks who he’s going to Bangkok with. He confirms it’s with Atom and she asks if it’s just the two of them. When Kongthap says yes, she hesitates for a second but then tells him to have a good trip.

On the train, Kongthap gets a pleasant surprise in the form of Atom. Atom says he convinced his mother and plans to make this a fun, memorable trip for Kongthap. Meanwhile, Half and Mudmee visit Sriracha University’s open house. During the medical faculty visit, Mudmee uses a stethoscope to listen to Half’s heart and they share a moment.

The train arrives in Bangkok and the boys make their way to the university. They explore veterinary medicine first, which is the field Kongthap wants to pursue. Atom mentions the faculty is having a workshop the next day and encourages Kongthap to attend, even if he has to go home on his own. Unfortunately, the workshop is already full. Kongthap then drags Atom to the food business faculty even though he thinks he won’t get in.

Back on home ground, Mudmee and Half have finished exploring their faculties and decide to get something to eat. When Half goes to the restroom, a man comes up to Mudmee and begins to drag her away. Half arrives and tries to help but then realises the man is Mudmee’s father! He’s curt and tells Mudmee to come home but then invites Half as well.

Kongthap and Atom go to the food academy and take part in a cooking session. The food turns out to be really good. While eating, Atom apologises for forgetting that Kongthap had said he wanted to study in Bangkok. Kongthap admits he felt strange to hear that they wouldn’t be studying in the same city. Atom describes it as the feeling of missing something and says he feels the same. After all, they are special to each other. They then get a souvenir photograph of them cooking together.

At Mudmee’s home, Half meets her mother, who is half-Japanese. But he’s awkward and stutters in front of her parents. While looking for the bathroom, Half comes across a room filled with guns and martial arts gear. Of course, Mudmee’s father finds him ‘snooping’.

In Bangkok, Atom and Kongthap go to their hotel room. Atom seems worried about ghosts and Kongthap messes around with him a bit, narrating a fake story of a woman’s ghost. Meanwhile, poor Half is challenged by Mudmee’s father, to punch him in the gut to prove he can protect Mudmee. Half says he can’t hit Mudmee’s father.

Mudmee’s mother puts a stop to the shenanigans and Half realises that Mudmee’s father is an actor who takes part in action films. All those things were only props. Later on, Mudmee tells Half that her father actually really liked Half. They talk some more and Half gives Mudmee a peck on the cheek. Mudmee’s father sees this and Half runs away before he can say anything further.

At the hotel in Bangkok, the power goes out, which freaks out Atom. Just like in Kongthap’s story, the phone rings. But it’s only the hotel staff. They try to go to sleep in their own beds but Atom isn’t able to. He asks Kongthap to sleep next to him and Kongthap agrees. Atom then asks what Kongthap thinks about long-distance relationships.

He asks if they will break up but then answers his own question — as long as it’s Kongthap, he believes they’ll make it through. After some time, Atom is asleep but Kongthap is awake. He gazes at Atom and moves closer but then thinks better of it. Instead, he fixes the blanket over Atom and moves to his own bed, smiling to himself.

In the morning, Kongthap yawns and Atom asks if he didn’t get proper sleep. Kongthap says it’s because of Atom but doesn’t explain himself. He then gets a phone call about a spot opening in the workshop. Atom encourages him to go and Kongthap drops Atom off at his train, although he looks sad to do so.

Inside, Atom looks a bit disheartened as well. They both think about how attending different schools will always feel like this. Kongthap walks away but seems to realise something and runs back to the train.

He gets inside but Atom is nowhere to be seen. In fact, he’s outside on the platform! They finally reach each other. Atom says he’s decided to study in Bangkok and will try his best to get into the university. At the very least, he wants to try. Kongthap smiles and wraps Atom up in a hug. He wants to be with Atom too but didn’t want to pressurise him.

Hearing this only encourages Atom though. They hug again and later we see that Atom missed his train and has to take the next one. Kongthap gives him a peck on the cheek and runs off as the episode comes to a close. That’s it for the recap of My Love Mix-Up Episode 10!

Episode 10 Review

Moving on to the review of My Love Mix-Up Episode 10, this one was another sugary sweet episode but it also highlights that the series is running out of story to tell. With hour-long run times and a relatively low-stakes storyline, it makes sense that the series is grasping for random situations to put their characters in. This is particularly true of Mudmee and Half, whom the show doesn’t seem to know what to do with now that they are together.

The entire sequence with her parents was incredibly awkward. The actors playing Mudmee’s parents offer uneven and over-the-top performances that do not gel with the subtleness of Half and Mudmee’s portrayals. The storyline around Mudmee’s father was also overdone and frankly, cringy. I hope the show can return to more introspective character studies than shenanigans like this.

When it comes to Atom and Kongthap’s storyline, the episode fares much better. It is definitely a bit slow and dragged out but we do get sweet moments between the couple as well as some intriguing conversation about long-distance relationships. The final scene is adorable and Atom’s determination to try and apply to this university (as well as Kongthap expressing his feelings) goes to show how far these two have come.
