Those Who Defend, Those Who Violate
Our ‘My Hero Academia’ Season 7, Episode 12 recap and review begins with Deku proceeding towards U.A. at top speed. Meanwhile, Bakugo’s heart has stopped from Shigaraki’s attack in the last episode, and Best Jeanist tries to repair the damage to his body. It’s revealed that, unlike what we thought, Dabi is alive and has learned Shota’s new skill. Elsewhere, one of the villains is trying to hack into U.A’s security systems.
Meanwhile, All for One uses the rewind drug made by the Doctor from Eri’s quirk to transform into a newer, younger version of himself. However, it can only be used once since the quirk will eventually rewind All for One out of existence. Before that happens, he’s eager to go to Shigaraki and help him. Hawks barely manages to keep him at bay, waiting for Endeavour. In the United States, the president takes the position of appealing to Shigaraki since they cannot win against him. However, military commander Agpar tries to talk him out of it.
While this is happening, Edge Shot decides to sacrifice himself to save Bakugo. He uses his quirk to enter Bakugo’s body and perform a kind of internal CPR to repair and kick-start his heart that Jeanist had stitched. In the meantime, Mirko puts up a daring fight against Shigaraki along with the others, but they’re eventually sidelined. However, Shigaraki does acknowledge that his body isn’t as perfect as it seemed.
Seeing the others trying to revive Bakugo, Shigaraki launches himself at Best Jeanist, but Mirio manages to stun him with a silly stance to buy time for Deku to enter through the magnetic field of Coffin in the Sky. Deku launches himself in what is one of the coolest scenes in the anime!
The Episode Review
Episode 12 of ‘My Hero Academia’ Season 7 is a thrilling and action-packed episode! It was worthwhile to wait an extra week for the episode, it seems. It appears the hold that the heroes have over the villains is loosening yet again as we see Dabi being revived and All for One with possibly the last of his surprises.
On the other hand, the heroes at U.A. are trying to hold their ground and revive Bakugo. Is he dead or alive? If you’ve read the manga, you probably know what comes next, but we are not going to spoil anything, so rest assured!
The last scene of this episode is particularly well animated, with Deku smashing a punch at Shigaraki in a comic book style. ‘My Hero Academia’ has a way with playing with the comic book genre, with references appearing in this episode, highlighting a metanarrative technique. Now that Deku has returned, it’s time for the showdown. We cannot wait for the next episode, can you?
With this, we come to the end of our ‘My Hero Academia’ Season 7, Episode 12 recap and review. We’ll meet you in the next one!
