Another Kudo Residence

Episode 1 of My Happy Marriage Season 2 begins with a young Miyo crying somewhere. Miyo rushes toward an opened door. After Miyo hugs Kiyoka near a tree, he and the others disappear. Kiyoka returns seconds later and apologizes to Miyo. 

Miyo wakes up and realizes she was dreaming. She discusses her dream with Arata and wonders if her supernatural powers are responsible for this. Kiyoka is at this meeting too. He wants Arata to give him and Miyo updates on the Dream-Sight ability. 

Arata promises to support Miyo until her powers fully awaken. Kiyoka argues Miyo will uncover the meaning behind her dreams if she works hard. Later, Miyo, Hazuki, and Kiyoka depart from a clothing store. Hazuki and Kiyoka argue over trivial matters while Miyo panics. 

Miyo thinks someone is watching her. Then, an elderly man who looks like Kiyoka, startles Miyo. Hazuki and Kiyoka tell Miyo that this man is their father, Tadakiyo. Tadakiyo is the Kudo House’s former head. Tadakiyo wants Kiyoka and Miyo to visit the Kudo Family’s villa. 

The four head to a coffee shop to discuss more. Tadakiyo hands Kiyoka a note about Grotesquerie incidents. He wants Kiyoka to investigate the incidents. Then, an origami bird flies into the room. Kiyoka opens the bird up. He learns Prince Takaihito wants him to look into the Grotesqueries scenarios too.

Kiyoka wants Miyo to accompany him to his family’s villa. Miyo and Kiyoka ride on a train. The former is concerned about how others will perceive her. Meanwhile, Kiyoka reflects on a meeting he and other Anti-Grotesquerie personnel had some time ago. 

Masashi, the commanding general, tells Kiyoka he wants him to investigate the scene. He also tells him that there are other areas in the Imperial City that he’d like Kiyoka to explore. Kiyoka understands. He says he’ll also try to find a suspicious person spotted in these areas.

Kiyoka and Miyo meet the Kudo Family’s butler, Sasaki. Sasaki takes them to the Kudo Family’s villa. Kiyoka and Miyo meet with Tadakiyo and the Kudo Family’s personnel. Then, Hazuki and Kiyoka’s mother, Fuyu, greet Miyo and Kiyoka. Fuyu and Kiyoka aren’t on great terms. 

Then, Fuyu criticizes Miyo and Kiyoka doesn’t take Fuyu’s criticism lightly. Tadakiyo interrupts Fuyu and Kiyoka’s discussion. Kiyoka and Miyo head to their rooms. He warns Fuyu not to talk ill of Miyo again, otherwise, he’ll murder her. 

After Miyo and Kiyoka change clothes, they go for a stroll. Miyo and Kiyoka visit a shop to observe and purchase some items. The shopowner gives Kiyoka intel on the suspicious gentleman. She says the suspicious man likes visiting a run-down mansion.

Kiyoka and Miyo visit a hill. The former apologizes for Fuyu’s poor behavior. Miyo tells Kiyoka she wants to get along with Fuyu and asks Kiyoka to watch over her. Nae, the Kudo Family’s maid, leads Kiyoka and Miyo to their room.

She tells Miyo and Kiyoka that Fuyu will not join them for dinner today. In the room, Miyo is nervous because she must share a bed with Kiyoka. Miyo leaves to ask the personnel for a separate bed. 

Elsewhere, Arata and Masashi meet with Takaihito. Takaihito wishes Arata the best since he’s the new head of the Usuba Family. Takaihito tells Arata that the Imperial City’s future rides on Arata and Miyo’s Dream-Sight.

Arata understands. Takaihito tells Arata that he has a mission for him. The episode ends with Takaihito telling Arata that a calamity is coming. 

The Episode Review

After a year-long wait, My Happy Marriage has returned. This episode introduces audiences to Kiyoka’s family and gives our dashing lead several tasks. It’s likely the suspicious man has some relation to Miyo. However, it’s unclear what that relation could be. Nevertheless, the murmurs we receive about this mysterious figure will encourage audiences to speculate about their intentions.

At the same time, seeing Fuyu treat Miyo poorly during their first meeting is depressing. Yet, it’s a nice change of pace, considering most of the Kudo Family and personnel treated Miyo kindly. This could motivate Miyo to break free from her shell and show Fuyu why she deserves to be Kiyoka’s wife.

This chapter’s humor will resonate with most, particularly the bedroom scene between Miyo and Kiyoka. Many who’ve never been in a relationship can understand Miyo’s perspective on her bed-sharing situation. 

Next to having nice visuals, this was a nice way to re-introduce audiences to My Happy Marriage.
