Abduction
Episode 1 of My Dad the Bounty Hunter begins with Sean reading an interesting space fantasy story to the class. The kids love it; however, the teacher orders Sean to come with him.
Lisa is attending a lecture about life across the universe and finds it hard to concentrate given the narrow-visioned approach of the teacher. Lisa corrects the teacher with the possibilities, explaining how vast the universe is and the fact that we just don’t have the technology to explore its vastness. The teacher takes offense at Lisa’s unorthodox explaining style and sends her off to the principal’s office.
Tess is working and making sales calls. She uses a dynamic strategy to close sales. Just then, she gets a call from the Principal and rushes over to make sure the kids are all right. They reassure her that everything is fine and narrate the short story written by Sean and show her the drawings, telling her the options to get them published.
Tess realizes the stories could be based on what transpired during their visit to space and gets tense. Just as she is about to leave, the principal also tells her about Lisa’s performance.
Tess calls Terry to inform him what happened at school. Terry promises to tell her everything as a part of the “no more secrets” deal. After attending the call, Terry gets back on the floor to continue work as a shoe salesman.
The staff pressurizes him about his time on the floor as customers are waiting. Terry tries to leave work a few minutes before his shift time is over, but the supervisor insists he stay to attend to the last customer.
Terry approaches the customer to help but feels something isn’t right as the disguise glitches. The customer transforms into one of Terry’s foes and handcuffs him. Terry fights back but is eventually overpowered, rendering him unconscious.
Just then, Tess and the kids arrive and see Terry being dragged into a spaceship before it takes off. Upon returning home, Tess prepares to head into space and rescue Terry. The kids are excited to tag along and help; however, Tess isn’t willing to put them in any danger.
Just then, Grandma arrives to take care of the kids as Tess is away. The kids slyly agree to stay back so they could get their mother to leave. As mom gets into the space car, Sean and Lisa hop into the trunk of the car, excited to go along.
However, Tess decides to check the trunk and kicks them out once again before finally taking off. She uses the space car to get to Glorlox’s ship and then takes off for Bucky Quanto’s.
Back at home, the kids wait for Grandma to fall asleep and then sneak out. The two find the perfect opportunity to get to the garage and find a way to launch into space. Sean stumbles upon a round beeping object and presses some buttons out of curiosity. The ball unleashes a blue blob-like alien.
The alien has a flashback of the time Terry captured him and is terrified to see Sean and Lisa. He learns they’re Terry’s kids and realizes he can trick the kids and run away. He attempts to run away but is sucked right back into the ball with a press of a button.
Realizing he cannot escape, he introduces himself as Blobby, a small-time scammer who was captured by Sabo. He realizes they want to go into space and cuts them a deal – if he gets them into space, they have to let him go.
Meanwhile, Tess makes her way to Bucky Quanto’s and gets curious about a guy named Kryll. She has KRS look Kryll up in the database. Blobby works on building a spaceship finder, and they use it to find the nearest Spaceship available.
Upon using the device, they find an EHC Ambassador vessel. Blobby takes Sean and Lisa into the spaceship and demand they release him as per the deal. Lisa agrees to only release him once they reach Bucky Quanto’s and Blobby reluctantly agrees.
Tess arrives at Bucky’s and puts on Sabo’s helmet, hiding her identity while inquiring about Kryll with the people around. She gets to know that Kryll is already dead.
Finally, she runs into Glorlox, who is infuriated to see someone use his partner’s helmet. He ends up yanking it off, thus exposing her identity to everyone there.
A member of the Conglomerate takes note of it and activates the job to capture her. A huge ruckus breaks out between the two and all the conglomerate’s bounty hunters.
Sean and Lisa finally arrive at Bucky Quanto’s and urge Blobby to head inside with them. They arrive to see Tess and Glorlox fleeing. The five of them rush to Glorlox’s ship and take off with two other ships still on their trail.
The two open fire on Glorlox’s ship, dealing damage. Glorlox manages to dodge some of it; however, he needs someone to take over the turrets and eliminate the threat. Sean steps in and eliminates both enemy ships.
Sean and Lisa celebrate the victory, but Tess is concerned about their safety. The kids express how much they wish to rescue Dad, but that doesn’t change her mind about getting them grounded. Blobby also introduces himself to her. He learns they’re looking for Sabo and make fun of him out of jealousy.
Glorlox realizes that if they had sent a bounty hunter after him, he’d be at the nearest BEF. The crew heads towards the nearest BEF in the Miranda sector.
The Episode Review
My Dad The Bounty Hunter Season 2 kicks off with a 43-minute-long episode of the hunter being hunted. Terry faces the consequences of going against the will of the conglomerate as per last season and ends up getting nabbed.
The chapter reveals a different approach the series will take, with our main character already separated from his original crew. Things look to focus more on his wife Tess and kids as they attempt to rescue him from the Conglomerate.
Throughout the episode, the partnership of Sean and Lisa stands out as their qualities always complement each other. The episode also brings back Glorlox, a strong character from the first season who is found working at Bucky Quanto’s. The episode ends with the five of them heading toward the nearest BEF facility to rescue Terry.
As always, the show stands out with its animation style and techy space-fantasy storyline. The show also incorporates an unorthodox sound style which goes very well with the story it tells.
