Episode 3 The Fiends of Winter
Episode 3 of Mr Villain’s Day Off starts with Mr Villain waking up to cold temperature. He does not want to get out of bed but he does want to utilise his precious day off too. He takes his phone and watches a panda video.
His over-enthusiastic colleague Rooney calls and Mr Villain is not happy. He rejects the call several times until he accidentally does answer. Rooney is calling to talk about a monster on Earth. This monster appears in winter and occupies human living spaces. It lures humans towards its warm belly and traps them.
Mr Villain find this advantageous to their plan. Rooney says that it is too late for him to investigate because he is caught in that trap. Mr Villain rushes to his aid at the control room headquarters.
Rooney asks Mr Villain to pick up some mandarins for him since it is a distraction for that monster. Mr Villain arrives at the headquarters to find Rooney under a warm table. On his way back, Mr Villain overhears a couple talking about meat-filled panda buns. The girl got it at a convenience store and Mr Villain begins his search. He’s petrified when he sees the girl break the panda bun into two.
He reaches the convenience store to buy a panda bun but is not happy with the fact that he will have to chew into it. He makes a round to the store a few days later and buys regular meat buns instead. He is amazed by the taste and goes back several times to eat different ones.
By the time he musters the courage to eat the panda buns, they’re discontinued. One day on his way back from the zoo, he finds similar buns in a different supermarket. Since then, he makes it a habit of eating warm buns on cold days. He craves them all the time. When he heats up a bun, it falls flat in the oven.
Similar situation happens at the Red Ranger’s place. The two young boys say it happened because Red Ranger wrapped it tightly. Blue Ranger suggests he could heat up the buns for the young boys, but they reject his help. They present a container with perfect covering to heat up the buns. Mr Villain is also impressed by the container.
In the next scene, we see him make snow rabbits. He is so much enamoured by the cuteness that he keeps the snow rabbit in a freezer and checks in often. Some days later, as he is walking down the street, it starts to snow and he is reminded of the snow rabbit.
Next, we see him helping a small elderly man carry his luggage up the stairs. Some time later, he even offers the old man a piggy back ride. The old man thanks Mr Villain for his help and asks if he will help him again… and Mr Villain obliges!
After the old man leaves, he pities the humanity for their soft and kind feelings. The following night, Mr Villain dreams and counts hundreds of pandas.
His dream changes to a snowed-in hamlet where he finds the old man again. The man is dressed in Santa clothing and gives a similar outfit to Mr Villain. He takes the Villain to deliver gifts and work on a Christmas-set up. The old man is none other than Santa himself.
Mr Villain asks him why he does all this, the old man says that he likes to do it as long as young children believe in him. He wants to grant their wishes. He thanks the Villain and calls him “Child of a distant star”. Mr Villain wakes up to the news of Christmas on TV and his time with Santa Claus feels like a dream.
The Episode Review
Episode 3 gives us a further glimpse into the goodness of Mr Villain. Despite his villain-y ways, the creature is helpful, even if it was not intentional. He spends his day offs pursuing hedonist interests and inadvertently ends up helping someone or forming a connection with someone.
