Mr. Plankton – K-drama Episode 4 Recap & Review

Episode 4

Episode 4 of Mr. Plankton begins with a flashback where Heung has been kneeling outside for two days to get permission from his family to marry Jae-mi. Jae-mi arrives at the house to stop Heung and protect him from his mother’s wrath. At this moment, Heung claims that the couple is pregnant, forcing his family to agree to their union.

The scene cuts to the point where both Heung and Hae-jo are unconscious. Jae-mi apologizes to Heung as she hides Hae-jo. She later reveals to Hae-jo that she wasn’t sure if she would be happy knowing she’d put a stop to Heung’s 500-year-old family legacy. She then calls Heung, who is still at the police station, intending to tell him she lied to him, but she is cut short when Hae-jo arrives and takes her.

Hae-jo convinces Jae-mi to wander with him for a while, searching for his biological father.

Meanwhile, through John, Heung’s mother tries to quietly resolves Jae-mi’s kidnapping to avoid malicious rumors about the family and against Jae-mi. With John’s help, Heung discovers that Jae-mi lied to him as he flips through pictures of her eating with Hae-jo. He becomes even more determined to chase Hae-jo, and with John’s help, spots the two through a network of CCTVs.

While all of this is happening, after the police release the gangsters, Gi-ho learns Hae-jo’s location thanks to his contacts, and his team sets off to find Hae-jo.

Elsewhere, Hae-jo and Jae-mi take a train to Busan. Hae-jo picks up some money and also finds out that Gi-ho is chasing him with the gangsters through a voice message Gi-ho left him. So, he destroys his phone with a hammer, and they reach a mountainous area to meet the second candidate who might be Hae-jo’s father.

The man and Jae-mi immediately hit it off, with Jae-mi disclosing her struggles. He helps cheer her up while Hae-jo drops off a sample for the paternity test. The episode ends with Hae-jo consoling Jae-mi while she weeps, even though he’s suffering through his own painful episode due to an illness he’s kept from Jae-mi.

The Episode Review

Mr. Plankton somehow manages to give us heartbreakingly poignant episode endings, with Hae-jo helping Jae-mi feel better while being a classic tragic hero himself. It makes us wonder about the fate of these characters intertwined by a cruel destiny.

On the other hand, what will Heung do now that he knows Jae-mi lied to him? He still doesn’t know about Jae-mi’s condition, but given his warm personality, we can be sure he won’t be a threat to Jae-mi’s happiness.

And candidate number two truly feels like he might be the person Hae-jo has been searching for, as the man confessed he went through numerous brain surgeries in his youth, which ultimately led him to live a peaceful life doing whatever he wanted. We don’t have the answers yet, but we are eager to learn more!
