2024’s The Crow is a modern reimagining of the graphic novel by James O’Barr. Like the source material, the movie tells the story of a murdered musician who comes back from the dead to seek bloody retribution on the people who killed him and his fiance.
Bill Skarsgård takes on the role of the antihero that was previously played by Brandon Lee who tragically died during production of the earlier film.

Boy Kills World (2023)
Here’s another revenge movie starring Bill Skarsgård. In this one, he takes on the role of Boy, a young deaf person who seeks to avenge the death of his murdered family. Like The Crow, this is a violent tale of retribution, with lots of high-octane action and a similar comic book feel.
Dark City (1998)
Dark City stars Rufus Sewell as an amnesiac who awakens from a deep slumber and discovers a group of beings known as The Strangers are putting people to sleep and changing the world around them.
The movie retains the gloomy aesthetic of The Crow, with a similar production design and a trippy narrative that constantly surprises.
Blade (1998)
If you’re looking for another dark comic book tale with supernatural overtones, look no further than Blade which stars Wesley Snipes as the titular antihero who is half mortal and half vampire.
Blade is as visually stylish as The Crow, with similar levels of bloody violence and a lead character who strikes fear into the hearts of those who oppose him.
Darkman (1990)
Liam Neeson stars as Peyton Westlake, a mild-mannered scientist who is brutally assaulted by a gang of thugs and left for dead.
Unlike Eric Draven, the murdered protagonist of The Crow, Westlake doesn’t actually die. But he still takes on the form of a vengeful antihero and exacts revenge on the people who rendered him horribly disfigured.
Hellboy (2004)
A new Hellboy movie is coming in 2024 – Hellboy: The Crooked Man. We don’t know if the movie will be any good but even if it isn’t we can still go back to the earlier adaptation of Mike Mignola’s comic book.
Ron Perlman stars as the titular demon who is brought to our realm by Nazis who want to use him for their nefarious purposes. Fortunately, he turns to the side of good and becomes the world’s defender from the forces of darkness.
This 2004 movie isn’t as dark as The Crow, despite its premise, but like the new movie (and its predecessor), it’s a stylish supernatural flick with another unlikely hero as the lead character.
The Crow (1994)
If you’re only going to watch one movie on this list, you may as well check out the earlier adaptation of James O’Barr’s comic book series. The late Brandon Lee stars as musician Eric Draven who is brutally murdered alongside his fiance on the night before his wedding.
Like its remake, this is a visually impressive revenge fantasy, with hyperkinetic action, a dark and ominous atmosphere, and a powerful lead performance from its main star.
Constantine (2005)
Keanu Reeves stars as John Constantine, a supernatural exorcist and demonologist who, like Eric Draven in The Crow, is able to traverse the worlds of both the living and the dead.
Like The Crow, this is another atmospheric slice of gothic horror, with terrific special effects and a lead character who had his origins in a comic book. On release, Constantine didn’t garner many good reviews but it’s cult following has convinced Hollywood to green-light a sequel.
Mandy (2018)
Here’s another revenge-fuelled fantasy horror that is as bloodily impressive as The Crow. This one stars Nicolas Cage as a once-peaceful lumberjack who embarks on a spiralling mission of vengeance when his girlfriend is abducted by a hippie cult leader and his demon-biker henchmen.
Mandy retains the otherworldly atmosphere of The Crow and has a similar ‘hell hath no fury’ revenge plot about a man who will do anything to seek retribution against those who have wronged him.
The Punisher (2004)
Thomas Jane is The Punisher, the Marvel antihero who becomes a vigilante after his family is wiped out by a ruthless criminal and his thuggish associates.
Frank Castle, the man wearing the skull-emblazoned costume, is not unlike The Crow’s Eric Draven as he goes on a one-man mission of revenge in bloody, extraordinary fashion.
Nosferatu (2024)
Unlike the other movies on this list, Nosferatu hasn’t been released yet (at the time of writing). But we’ve included it here as it’s Bill Skarsgård’s second gothic horror movie of the year, following the release of The Crow.
Nosferatu is a remake of the 1922 silent horror film that was based on Bram Stoker’s Dracula novel from 1897. The original movie was absolutely terrifying – far unlike anything that audiences had seen at the time – so here’s hoping the remake retains the sinister atmosphere and creepy aesthetics of that classic vampire film.
