Will there be a We Have a Ghost 2?
Netflix’s new supernatural comedy, We Have a Ghost, focuses on a young teen named Kevin and his encounter with a ghost named Ernest. As the movie progresses, we learn more about this friendly spirit and discover the truth about his real identity and his untimely passing.
If you have seen and enjoyed the movie, you might be interested in a sequel.
But will there be We Have a Ghost 2? Or have Netflix decided to lay the chances of a sequel to rest? Here’s what we know at the time of writing:
What is We Have a Ghost about?
The movie, which is based on the short story Ernest by Geoff Manaugh, tells the story of the Presley family and their encounters with a ghost named Ernest who is taking up residence in their new home.
Young Kevin is the first to meet Ernest when the spirit tries to scare him away. Kevin isn’t scared at all as Ernest’s attempts to frighten him by waving his hands around in a spooky way is more laughable than terrifying.
Then Kevin’s father Frank and older brother Fulton meet the ghost and with dollar signs in their eyes, they decide to turn Ernest into a YouTube and TikTok sensation.
The CIA learn of Ernest’s presence after he goes viral and they descend on the Presley household looking for the ghost. But unfortunately for the not-so-secret service, Kevin and Ernest have gone on a road trip to learn more about the spirit’s past.
Do the CIA find Ernest? Does Ernest discover more about his demise? There will be no spoilers here but if you would like to learn more about the movie, check out our Ending Explained article which goes into a little more detail.
Will there be We Have A Ghost 2?
At the time of writing, a sequel to We Have a Ghost has not been announced. Its director, Christopher Landon, hasn’t yet discussed the possibility, as far as we know, but as he made a sequel to his previous horror comedy, Happy Death Day, it might be that he’s open to directing a follow-up movie to We Have A Ghost if it makes sense for him to do so.
The movie’s ending leaves the way open for a sequel so it might be that Landon already has an idea in mind for a follow-on story. If he does, he will be reliant on Netflix to green-light the movie. They haven’t yet made an announcement regarding We Have a Ghost 2 but if the movie does well, we expect they will be open to the possibility in the future.
What could We Have a Ghost 2 be about?
Ernest could return for the sequel if it is given the green light as there was an indication in the first movie that his time on Earth wasn’t yet done. We might also see the Presley family again but as they moved out of their haunted house at the end of We Have a Ghost, we suspect another family will move in and become the focus of the second movie.
When could We Have a Ghost 2 be released?
As there isn’t news of a sequel at this stage, it’s hard to say for sure. If it is given the green light, there is a chance that it could be released sometime next year, perhaps around Halloween time if the filmmakers are given enough time to push ahead with the sequel.
That’s all we know for now but if we do hear news of a sequel, we will update this page with the relevant information.

Reminded me of the 1980’s movies, Splash and Harry and the Hendersons..whimsical..family friendly and in this day-in-age the world needs a moral compass with a feel good..funny compassionate/empathetic lesson that I feel is what ‘We have a ghost’ tries to exemplify
It was a heartwarming movie about the Ghost’s mission to find his killer and his reunion with his daughter. We really enjoyed it.
My family loved We Have A Ghost. We think more ghosts will see out Kevin and his family to help them move on. It could be more murder mystery/comedy. We are just excited to see more.
