Will there be a Scream VII?
The Scream series has been around since 1996 and since then, has catapulted itself to the top of the slasher pyramid, delivering a number of well written and enjoyable movies. If you have seen and enjoyed the latest in the franchise, you may be wondering if there will be a sequel. Here’s what we know at the time of writing:
What is Scream VI about?
The story picks up after the events of last year’s box office surprise hit, with Samantha struggling to adjust to her new reality. While it’s advised to watch 2022’s Scream before jumping into this, Scream VI does a pretty solid job recapping what’s happened as Sam attends therapy. In the time we’ve left her though, Sam is public enemy number 1 and word online is that Richie was innocent and Sam has framed him as the Ghostface killer.
After moving to New York and starting a new life for themselves, Sam is struggling to keep her relationship with Tara intact. She wants to do her own thing but sees Sam as an annoying, intrusive figure overshadowing her own life.
When a new string of murders starts to pick up, with someone targeting those closest to Sam and Tara, our protagonists find themselves conflicted between saving themselves from harm and doing everything she can to unmask the next Ghostface killer.

Will there be a Scream VII?
At the time of writing, a sequel to Scream VI has not been confirmed. Given the movie has only just been released internationally, that’s hardly surprising. However, given the films are made with a small budget and they’ve all made a tidy profit at the box office, it wouldn’t be surprising to see Paramount make the decision to greenlight another sequel to this one.
If you saw Scream VI, then you’ll know that the ending preps for a much darker tale to follow, especially with Samantha’s mental state deteriorating. However, it could be a fake-out given we saw her throw the mask away at the end.
What could Scream VII be about?
There are a few possibilities around which way Scream VII could go and it would seem that the creators have hinted at this across the run-time. Samantha’s ties to the original Ghostface Killer are well-known at this point but we could see her take a step toward becoming the next Ghostface killer. Given her glee at killing at the end of the movie and the way she’s making a habit of going stab-happy, we could see this teased in another movie.
The discussion around legacy characters is another big question mark here, and it could be that Sidney and Gail both reprise their roles in an upcoming flick to take out a new Ghostface killer(s) with Sam and Tara.
There are plenty of ways this could go but it would seem that the “Core 4” will probably still be intact and show up in the next movie too.
When could Scream VII be released?
As we don’t have any concrete information to go on, it’s fair to assume that the film won’t be ready until 2024 at the earliest. Given there’s no script written, no casting or production design complete, not to mention a sequel hasn’t been announced by Paramount, then we’ll have to wait and see.
That’s all we know for now but if we do hear news of a sequel, we will update this page with the relevant information.

You’re absolutely right, I do apologize. I’ve just gone in and corrected the article now. Really appreciate you taking the time to comment and let us know.

The Scream franchise has been around since Scream (1) came out in 1996. Just as a correction to your statement that the franchise has been around since “1998”, as Scream 2 came out in 1997 so that date is you provided is inaccurate.
