Hypnotic is a sci-fi thriller currently available to watch on home video on demand. The film was released in theatres on 12 May and stars Ben Affleck as a grieving cop looking for his little daughter who was kidnapped years ago. Alice Braga (Queen of the South) co-stars with Affleck in a pivotal role.

If you have seen and enjoyed Hypnotic, you might be interested in a sequel. But will there be a Hypnotic 2? Or are the chances of a follow-up unlikely to reach lift-off? Here’s what we know at the time of writing.

What is Hypnotic about?

Hypnotic is set in an imaginary world where hypnosis is a real thing. Ben Affleck plays Danny Rourke, a local cop who lost his daughter four years ago in a kidnapping. Her body was never found and shockingly, her kidnapper Tyler claimed he had “no memory of the kidnapping.” A series of seemingly disconnected bank heists start Rourke’s journey of finding the truth about his daughter and also discovering unknown truths about himself.

A powerful hypnotic, Lev Dellrayne, wreaks havoc in the city by unleashing his mazy hypnotic constructs. Rourke finds Diana Cruz, a former hypnotic who called in the robberies to the police, and someone who knows Dellrayne from before.

Will there be a sequel to Hypnotic?

No sequel has been announced at this stage although there is potential for a follow-up movie should Solstice Studios and other co-producers decide to make it into a franchise and ever decide to hit the lift-off button. We aren’t going to go into spoiler territory here but it’s clear at the end of Hypnotic that there is scope for Dellrayne’s chase of Minnie to continue for a long time.

What could happen in Hypnotic 2?

It’s difficult to talk about a sequel without divulging any spoilers. But here’s what we will say: Not every character from Hypnotic will appear in Hypnotic 2! Or there might yet be scope for some of them to come back, given the film’s mazy nature and twisty plot. We had several moments where what we saw did not happen and it was not real.

Minnie and her family’s story did not stop at the end of Hypnotic, giving a credible plot to explore in a second part.

We would advise you not to get your hopes up, however. There has been no word of a sequel and we don’t think it’s the filmmaker’s intent to continue Minnie’s story. Of course, we could be wrong. If a sequel to Hypnotic is announced, we aim to update this page with the relevant information.

When could Hypnotic 2 be released?

As the sequel doesn’t appear to be in production, we are unlikely to see it this year or early next year. A late 2024 or early-mid 2025 release is more likely, assuming, of course, it is ever given the green light.

  9. Great movie with a plot I’ve never seen. I feel a sequel is warranted, since the door was left open with the scene that appeared in the middle of the end credits. We have to do our part, though, and spread the word to watch the movie. If this movie doesn’t bring in a big enough audience, it won’t make sense to produce a sequel. Spread the word.

  10. Movie made me think of ´Inception´, a whole while back… It has the same vibe & sudden plot twists, just until the end. Would love a sequel & for those, who love post/mid-credit scenes, you´re not going to be disapointed 😉

  12. Yeah… A most unprecedented flick. A sequel to this triumphant film would be most tranquil.
