Will there be a Day Shift 2? Here’s what we know about a sequel:

Day Shift 2

In J.J. Perry’s directorial debut, Jamie Foxx stars as Bud Jablonski, a loving father who is working hard to make sure his daughter gets a good education. But despite his insistence that he works as a pool cleaner, he actually makes money by hunting down vampires. Cue lots of gunplay, fight scenes, and some very creepy special effects.

If you have always wanted to see an action-packed vampire movie, Day Shift is for you!

But will there be a sequel? The ending of the movie is pretty open-ended so Day Shift 2 is surely a no-brainer, right? Here’s what we know.

Will there be a Day Shift 2?

At the time of writing, Day Shift 2 has not been confirmed for a sequel. As Day Shift has only just been released on Netflix, it might be a little while before we hear news regarding this. Sequels are usually determined after viewing figures and reviews have been taken into account so we imagine the people at Netflix are waiting to see what kind of response the first movie gets.

Of course, it might also depend on Jamie Foxx’s schedule. He is currently very busy with several other movies in the works, so if a sequel isto be made, it could be a while before it goes into production. This is assuming that he will star in the movie but as he was a key player in Day Shift, we can’t imagine a sequel without him.

Who could be in Day Shift 2?

Jamie Foxx is likely to be front and centre again, providing he can find a window in his busy schedule. We can expect to see Dave Franco and Snoop Dog too, both of whom made it to the end of Day Shift (almost) intact.

Foxx and Franco are certainly open to a sequel. In an interview with Screen Rant, the two talked about the possibility.

Foxx said:

“We talked last night about it and we got some great ideas. It’s not always normal for Netflix to do part twos, they don’t always do it, but we feel like with this one, we got a great chance on how everybody’s responding to it already. They’re responding to the trailer, they’re responding in the screenings and things like that. And it’s fun, you know what I’m saying, so I think we’ll definitely try to make it happen and I think if they do, it’ll be even better.”

Franco has ideas for the sequel’s title. He said:

“We’re talking about it, we’ve got ideas…We’ve got a good title, we got Night Shift followed by Graveyard Shift, trilogy, baby!”

There is certainly interest in a sequel then, but as Foxx said, Netflix doesn’t usually “do part twos” so we will just have to wait on their response.

What could Day Shift 2 be about?

If a sequel were to happen, it might be that Bud’s wife and daughter get involved in his work, as they found out what his real job was before the end credits rolled.

As Seth (Franco) and Big John (Snoop) went through a character transformation in the first movie, there is also the potential for a sequel that focuses on their experiences in the vampire world.

It might even be that Scott Adkins and Steve Howey, who played the vampire-hunting Nazarian brothers in Day Shift, take over as leads in the movie. Failing this, they could get their own spin-off TV series too as there is plenty of scope for a serialised adventure with the ass-kicking siblings.

This is all just speculation as until a sequel is officially announced, we cannot say for sure what the next movie’s plotline could be.

When could Day Shift 2 be released?

We can’t say for sure but if Foxx is involved, it probably won’t be released before 2024 as he has several other projects on the go. These include the TV mini-series Tyson (where he will play Mike Tyson) and a rumoured remake of The Wild Bunch.

This is all we know for now but we aim to update this page if and when a sequel to Day Shift is announced.

  1. I’m 100% down for a sequel, especially starring Scott Adkins & bro kicking much butt in well choreographed, very little CGI show. Adkins was the best part of John Wick 4, which was fantastic!
