Here’s everything we know:
What is Ultraman: Rising about?
Ultraman: Rising is a surprisingly wholesome addition to the Kaiju genre as it follows baseball star Kenji Sato who also moonlights as the vigilante, Ultraman thanks to his superhero genes. While Japan has its Kaiju Defence Force who are hellbent on eradicating all Kaiju, Sato’s dad, the estranged Professor Sato believes in protecting the Kaiju. It doesn’t help that when Kenji destroys a Gigantron, her infant ends up imprinting with him and believes he is her father.
Of course, Emi, the baby Kaiju is special, she can echo-locate Kaiju Island, home to all Kaiju. This puts a target on her head as KDF’s chief, Onda hopes to use her to destroy all Kaiju once and for all. And in between all this, Kenji just wants to focus on his baseball but is forced to play a superhero and a dad at the same time.

Will there be an Ultraman: Rising 2?
At the time of writing, Netflix hasn’t announced a sequel to Ultraman: Rising.
Ultraman: Rising has been co-produced by the IP owner, Tsuburaya Productions, Netflix and ILM, a subsidiary of Lucasfilm. While they are responsible for several movie series, with Netflix distributing Ultraman: Rising, we will have to keep an eye out on the reception.
Netflix usually announces sequels depending on the popularity, views and drop-off rates. Some movies are instantly renewed like Enola Holmes and Rebel Moon while others take years such as Extraction and Murder Mystery.
So, while Ultraman: Rising is already doing quite well on Netflix and has garnered quite a lot of buzz online, there is still no news on a sequel. However, director Shannon Tindle has shared that he has planned it as a trilogy and so knows what exactly he expects should there be two more films.
What do we know about Ultraman: Rising 2?
Not much is known about Ultraman: Rising 2 at the moment given that it has not been greenlit. The movie ends with Kenji taking Emi to Kaiju island. In the epilogue, he also gets a call from his supposedly dead mother. She states that she is alive and we see that her location is Nebula M78, the home planet of the Ultra species.
Should the movie get renewed for Part 2, it could look into the origin of the Ultra species, Kenji rescuing his mom and meeting more superheroes like him. We also would love to see Emi make a comeback.
However, nothing is confirmed yet, but we’ll be sure to update this page as soon as any new information comes in.
