The Puppetman 2
Currently streaming on Shudder is The Puppetman, a horror movie about a young woman named Michal who is seemingly possessed by the titular demon.
If you have seen The Puppetman and were left shocked by its ending, you might be interested in a sequel.
But will we ever get to see The Puppetman 2?
Here’s what we know:
What is The Puppetman about?
The Puppetman centres around Michal, a troubled young woman whose father is in prison for murdering her mother. He claims he is innocent and that something controlled his body during the crime. Michal isn’t so sure about her father’s claim but when people start dying around her, she starts to suspect that she might have fallen prey to the entity that supposedly possessed her father.
Is Michal possessed by the Puppetman? We won’t reveal that here but if you would like to know more about the movie, check out our Ending Explained article.
Is somebody pulling the strings for The Puppetman 2?
At the time of writing, The Puppetman 2 has not been announced.
Generally, Shudder, like other cable networks and streamers, gauge numerous metrics before renewing a show or a movie, including how many people initially watch it and then looking at the drop-off rate. With some of a streamer’s content, cancellations or renewals happen quickly (ala. Squid Game, Bridgerton, Red Notice etc.) Other times, it can take months before a streamer like Shudder makes a decision over a sequel’s future.
The opinion of movie critics can also determine whether a sequel is given the green light.
As The Puppetman has only just been released, it’s too early to report on viewing figures for the movie. But as it hasn’t been favourably reviewed by critics, ourselves included – check out our review – we think a sequel to The Puppetman is unlikely.
What could happen in The Puppetman 2?
The ending of The Puppetman is inconclusive so there is room for a sequel involving Michal and the entity that apparently killed her mother. If there is another movie, we would likely see the Puppetman wreak more havoc on the world using whatever host it has taken control of.
Don’t get your hopes up though. While a sequel makes sense, considering the open ending of the first movie, the poor critical response may deter Shudder from greenlighting The Puppetman 2.
We’ll update this page when we get more information.
