- We discuss the possibility of a sequel to The Bricklayer
Renny Harlin’s latest movie is the action crime thriller The Bricklayer. Aaron Exchart stars as the titular builder but he spends more time kicking bad-guy butt in the movie than putting up any brick walls. We’re sure this will be disappointing to those in the construction industry but anybody looking for some B-movie thrills and spills might get their fix after this one.
If you have seen and enjoyed The Bricklayer, you might be interested in a sequel.
But will there be The Bricklayer 2? Here’s what we know:
What is The Bricklayer about?
Eckhart stars as Steve Vail, an ex-CIA agent who is called back into service when Victor Radek (Clifton Collins Jr.), a former spy with a grudge against the agency, goes on a killing spree.
Vail teams up with another agent, Kate Bannon (Nina Dobrev), and together they track Radek to Greece where they try to put an end to his revenge-fuelled rampage.

Will there be The Bricklayer 2?
At the time of writing, a sequel to The Bricklayer has not been announced. The decision to move ahead with a sequel will likely depend on its director, Renny Harlin, and Millenium Pictures, the production company behind the movie.
If there is a demand for a sequel from audiences, and if The Bricklayer 2 is financially viable, then a sequel may be given the green light. The first movie’s critical reaction will also be taken into account.
Unfortunately, The Bricklayer hasn’t received many good reviews. We were particularly scathing in our review, which you can read here. We liked the movie’s action scenes but as you can read in the review, we felt the movie had more negatives than positives.
Despite the low review scores, there is a chance a sequel might happen. The Bricklayer is based on the novel of the same name by Noah Boyd and that book had a follow-up titled Agent X.
As such, it’s possible The Bricklayer is just the start of an action franchise for its star, Aaron Eckhart, though there is no official word on this at the time of writing.
What could The Bricklayer 2 be about?
If the sequel is adapted from Agent X, then it will follow the plot of the book. The story synopsis is as follows:
“FBI-agent-turned-bricklayer Steve Vail once helped the FBI solve a brilliant extortion plot. It was supposed to be a one-and-done deal. But when he’s in Washington, D.C., to see Kate Bannon- an FBI assistant director- on what he thinks will be a romantic New Year’s Eve date, suddenly things get complicated. The FBI has another unsolvable problem, and it has Vail’s name written all over it.”
Another synopsis reads:
“The former FBI agent author of The Bricklayer presents a follow-up in which rogue ex-agent Steve Vail races against time to track down a Russian intelligence officer who may have been caught trying to identify treasonous Americans. 150,000 first printing.”
Of course, there’s also the chance the sequel will have an original story, but whatever the case might be (no pun intended), we will update this page when we have new information.
