Past Lives 2
Celine Song’s debut film, Past Lives is a romantic melodrama starring Greta Lee, Teo Yoo and John Magaro. The Korean-English movie premiered at the Sundance Film Festival 2023 and since then has been a film festival favourite before its theatrical release worldwide. With a heartbreaking move, it leaves viewers at the edge of their seats by the end of the film.
Well, if you have seen it, like every other viewer, you may be looking for its sequel. But will there be Past Lives 2? Or is there little chance of a follow-up film? Here’s what we know at the time of writing.

What is Past Lives about?
Past Lives follows South Korean immigrant Nora who has to leave behind her first love, Hae-sung when her family moves to Canada for a better life. While they still have feelings for each other, unable to handle a long-distance relationship, Nora breaks up with Hae-sung. She moves on and gets into a marriage of convenience for a US green card. But as she falls in love with her husband, Arthur, Hae-sung decides to visit New York and reconnect with Nora.

Will there be a Past Lives 2?
At the time of writing, a sequel to Past Lives has not been announced.
Past Lives has been co-produced by multiple studios including Killer Films and the popular South Korean media company CJ ENM. However, so far, they have only produced singular movies since their inception like Parasite and Carol. But that could change should Past Lives do well critically and commercially.
What could happen in Past Lives 2?
Past Lives is one of those movies where we actually would love a sequel. It ends on a sad note making one wonder about the characters and what happens to them. Hae-sung accepts his fate and finds closure by believing that they are in a past life. But Nora breaks down as she wonders about the road not taken. And while Arthur comes out as the winner, he may be left wondering if Nora’s feelings for Hae-sung are love or nostalgia.
It is unlikely, but if we do get a sequel, it could focus on the aftermath of Nora and Arthur trying to fix their relationship. With Past Lives bringing up the ‘inyeon’ concept, a sequel could also be on another life of the same characters. So, if there are plans for Past Lives 2, there is enough material for the story to move forward.
Of course, this is all speculation as there has been no official news regarding a second movie. Keep an eye out for this section as we will update readers if there is any news.

Definitely! I would love a sequel. I wanted more. I’d like to see Hae-sung move on with his life and find love. He cared for her the most, it seems she felt different towards him. She left when they were young, she decided they should stop talking and again they separated as he left NYC. I’d love to see how Nora and Arthur navigate through Arthur’s insecurities about whether they are meant to be together. Great movie. But justice for Hae-sung!
A sequel to Past Lives?
Absolutely! The feelings between Hae-sung and Nora were palpable. It would be impossible for her to simply dismiss her feelings. They are clearly deep and very real.
It simply cannot just end here.
There is so much more to say.
I see her visiting Korea next.
C’mon Celine. We all fell in love with this movie. It deserves another chapter…or two.
Not focus on Nora and Arthur, com on! the movie will not sell… audience would go to cinema to see that nora & haesung both rekindle after the hurdles, true love always conquers
