Love In Taipei 2

Love In Taipei, the movie adaptation of the hit book series Loveboat, Taipei by Abigail Hing Wen hit the streaming platform Paramount+ in August 2023 and there has been much excitement surrounding it. Following Ever Wong, a Taiwanese American who goes to her home country to find her roots, she also finds love, friendship and a whole new philosophy on life.

Well, if you have seen it, like every other viewer and book fan, you may be looking for its sequel. But will there be a Love In Taipei 2? Or is there little chance of a follow-up film? Here’s what we know at the time of writing.

Please note: this article contains spoilers about the film’s ending!

What is Love In Taipei about?

Love In Taipei starts off with Ever Wong, a premed student who wishes to be a contemporary dancer being sent to a Taiwanese summer school by her parents to learn more about her culture. But what she gets is completely different from what she or her parents signed her up for. Called a loveboat, the summer school in Huwei is one big ‘giant party’ where Taiwanese Americans get together to party and enjoy the city.

While Ever is hesitant at first, she ends up joining the other students, including her roommate Sophie as they party and enjoy their 8 weeks in Taiwan. There she also meets her parents’ ideal Asian guy, Rick who is good at everything and the rebellious free-spirited boy, Xavier.  Oh, and she needs to be preparing for her secret dance audition… What could go wrong?

Will there be a Love In Taipei 2?

At the time of writing, a sequel to Love In Taipei has not been announced. The film ends happily for Ever. But since it is based on Loveboat, Taipei which is a series with 3 books, there is hope for a sequel. And if we are to go by a New York Times post and the author’s interaction with it, a sequel may very well be in the works.

What could happen in Love In Taipei 2?

If we do get a Love In Taipei 2, most fans have shown their enthusiasm for a story that helps Ever and Rick get back together. While the movie doesn’t fully follow the first book, the overall premise is the same. Similarly, a sequel can be based on the second book – Loveboat, Reunion.
