Jesus Revolution is that rare faith-based movie – it’s a historical drama that can be enjoyed by both Christians and non-Christians alike. A miracle!
Adapted from the book of the same name, the film tells the story of an emotionally wounded young man named Greg Laurie and how he (and thousands of other young people) were transformed by an evangelical Christian movement that took place in Southern California in the late 60s.
The legacy of the people involved in this story is still felt today as what happened in the late 60s is still happening all around the world via the churches that have been set up as a direct result of the evangelistic work carried out by Greg and others.
If you have seen and enjoyed Jesus Revolution, you might be interested in a sequel. But will there be a Jesus Revolution 2? Or will it take a miracle for a follow-up film to be released? Here’s what we know:
What is Jesus Revolution about?
As mentioned, the film follows Greg Laurie, a teenager who falls in with a group of hippies and later becomes a Christian. While much of what happens in the film is seen through his eyes, we also get to meet Lonnie Frisbee, a charismatic and spirit-filled hippie who partnered with a South Californian pastor to create a ministry that catered to the hippie population and any other young person looking to fill the God-shaped hole in their lives.
We won’t go into plot specifics in this article but if you would like to know more about the film, check out our review and ending explained articles which go into more detail.
Will there be a Jesus Revolution 2?
At the time of writing, a sequel to Jesus Revolution has not been announced. This is of no surprise as the first film doesn’t end with any kind of cliffhanger or hint of a sequel as it tells a mostly complete story.
We say ‘mostly’ because the film misses out some key facts about Lonnie Frisbee, the man who helped to kickstart the spiritual awakening of American youth in the late 60s and early 70s. So, while we don’t think there will be a sequel, there is still hope that somebody will one day create a film that focuses on Lonnie, his evangelistic work, the struggles he had with his sexuality, and his tragic passing.
What could happen in Jesus Revolution 2?
A sequel is unlikely but as mentioned previously, a film based around Lonnie Frisbee, his childhood traumas and the man he eventually came to be, would be well worth a watch if any film studio wanted to make it.
There is also scope for a film that delves further into the work of Greg Laurie and his evangelistic work so this could be another possibility, perhaps as a direct sequel to Jesus Revolution.
