Will there be a Hidden Strike 2? Here’s what we know about a sequel:

 Hidden Strike 2

Hidden Strike marks one of the first collaborations between Jackie Chan and John Cena. If the film proves successful, the two might be seen again in another big-budget blockbuster soon. From what we see of them in Netflix’s Hidden Strike, the pairing would be highly anticipated.

Hidden Strike, much in line with other Netflix offerings in the action genre lately, is an entertaining blockbuster that revels in the pull of its megastars.

There is no attempt to complicate things by introducing foreign elements into the storytelling. You have seen this before, you know exactly what is going to happen and yet you will watch this anyway. That is what the intent behind Hidden Strike is.

Cena and Chan are the highlights of the film, competing for attention with some stunning stunts. They are both great but Ma Chunrui is the unexpected surprise in Hidden Strike, effortlessly playing a classy vixen.

If you enjoyed this movie and are hoping for another story set within the same universe – be that a sequel, sidequel, or prequel – you will want to know whether or not the producers have given a follow-up movie the green light. Here’s what we know:

What is Hidden Strike about?

Hidden Strike tells the story of two special forces operators, Feng and Van Horne, who are united in their bid against mercenary Owen Paddock through fate. The plot revolves around an oil refinery in Iraq owned by a Chinese corporation, which Paddock wants to use for his own personal gain. Feng and Horne join forces to stop Paddock, while also helping Horne complete a noble cause.

Will there be a Hidden Strike 2?

At the time of writing, a second movie has not been announced but we do think a follow-up movie might be on the cards.

It is difficult to say anything at the moment since information is scarce in the public domain. So we will have to go off on tangible metrics to arrive at a conclusion. Hidden Strike became the most-watched Netflix film at the time it was released on the platform within the first week of streaming. Even if one looks at its global viewership count, Hidden Strike is ranked in the top 10 list.

The movie was released around a month ago on Netflix and yet shows no signs of slowing down. Given how the story ends, there is potential for a second film, presumably with Cena and Chan who are undoubtedly the USP of Hidden Strike.

Generally, Netflix, like other cable networks and streamers, gauges numerous metrics before renewing a show or a movie, including how many people initially watch it and then looking at the drop-off rate. With some of its content, cancellations or renewals happen quickly (ala. Squid Game, Bridgerton, Red Notice etc.) Other times, it can take months before streamers like Netflix make a decision over a movie’s future.

We have seen Netflix give the green light to a Red Notice sequel earlier this year and that could mean they are interested in taking forward such big-budget bonanzas. The problem is that Netflix does not own the producing rights to Hidden Strike as they only have distribution rights on its platform. Besides that complication, Hidden Strike 2 might well be a reality in a couple of years!

We aim to update this page when we have more information.

What could happen in Hidden Strike 2?

Well, that is anyone’s guess really. Since Feng and Horne’s mission in the first film concluded successfully, we will possibly embark on a completely new mission with no strings attached in the second film. Cena and Chan should ideally return and more high-ranking action stars can also be roped in to further bolster the film’s appeal.

At the moment, nothing is certain. The WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes have made a huge dent in short-term certainty. But once the strikes are over, we might get a chance to get more clarity about projects like a sequel to Hidden Strike.
